Virgin Mary metal plaque, 2 1/4″ by 1 1/2″, made in Italy, raised graphic. German Bronze necklace, Jesus and Zacchaeus at the Sycamore Tree, very unique. Chain may have been added to pendant. 2 3/4 by 2 3/4. Raised inscription on back. Made in France medal, stating one of the promises Jesus made to St. Bronze Jesus metal piece. Possibly was once positioned on alabaster. Signed on the bottom left LM, 1 3/4.

The icon belongs to the Carmelites’ basilica church in Naples, Italy. It bears the title “La Bruna, ” or “the dark one”. It derives its title from the dark color of the flesh tones applied to Mary. This touching image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is frequently imitated in other depictions of Mary, Queen Beauty of Carmel around the world. The style of the icon captures a certain “tenderness, ” in which the Mother’s head lies in fond proximity to that of her Child. The Greeks nicknamed this type “the sweet kiss” icon.
