Antique 1800’s handmade inlaid marquetry wood brass photo album with photographs

Up for sale is a very rare antique 19th century handmade wooden marquetry photo album. The back and front cover are carved out of wood and done in a very elaborate marquetry design depicting a lady farmer. It is very detailed and mounted to a leather binding along with brass hinged clasps on the opposite side. The interior has many pages holding an assortment of family photos and tintypes. It measures 6 3/8 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches thick. The leather binding has some ware and both back and front cover were reattached.

This antique letter from Owego, NY is a fascinating piece of history. Written in the 1800s (perhaps 1887 or 1881, but based on other materials it was found with, I suspect it may be 1857) it offers a glimpse into life during that time period. The letter mentions “strange events” and an “awful murder committed, ” providing a glimpse into the dark side of society during those times. Wear commensurate to age, including smudging, age stains, discoloration, folds, fraying, minor tears, etc commensurate to a letter of its age.
