This is a spiritually evocative and inspiring Antique Old Mexican Catholic Impressionist Still Life Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a statuette of the Virgen De Guadalupe, placed next to an ornate 19th century brass candle & candle holder with a finger loop, depicted in low light, likely in the dead of night. The figure of the Virgin Mary reveals a stoic facial expression, with ornate and dignified patterned robes associated with the miracle of her visitation to Juan Diego in 1531. Somonte in the lower left corner. There is very little information on this talented Mexican Impressionist, and less than a handful of his paintings have ever surfaced on the secondary market. This artwork likely dates to the 1930’s. Approximately 23 1/4 x 27 1/4 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 15 3/4 x 19 1/2 inches. Good condition for age, with some light craquelure, a couple pinhole tears to the canvas, and moderate scuffing and edge wear to the vintage wooden frame. Additionally, the top wooden bar of the frame is starting to separate, which is visible at the upper right corner please see photos. Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. Beautiful Excellent vintage condition, one of the open/close little hinges needs screw added (one side only, other hinge is intact) one of the screws is there and one mini screw is missing, closes perfectly with or without TLC. Vintage Catholic Last Rites/Sick Call box with a Jesus picture. The picture of Jesus on the front is set in a wood frame and the outside frame. 10″ wide by 12″ high. So when the sick call/last rites box is not in use. You can hang this up on the wall and see the Jesus picture. The picture and box are held together with 2 hinges on one side and a hook on the other. When you need to use the sick call/last rites items, you undo the hook and the box opens up. Markings: “LM & C France” on the back of the frame, tested, and guaranteed. Main Stone Measurements/Color. Accent Stone Measurements/Color. Men’s or Women’s: Unisex. Handmade during the Georgian era in France. Features the motifs of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Virgin Mary, composed of silk with metallic gold stitched accents. The hearts rest on a black silk background, which also contains a cross motif. A crown of thorns design borders this image. A bubble glass frame protects the three-dimensional picture. A bale is connected to the base metal frame, allowing the piece to be hung on a wall, or worn as a large pendant. Damage: Age appropriate wear. There are several minor scratches to the bubble glass, as well as some wear to the black backing of the picture. The price has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only. The Georgian era is known for its hand-crafted designs, which were heavily influenced by world exploration.
