Authentic Antique Jennings Bros. Abraham Lincoln Seated Bookends (Matched Pair)
Highly collectible pair of antique art metal bookends manufactured by the prestigious Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. These bookends are a beautiful, highly detailed 3D miniature replication of Daniel Chester French’s iconic monumental sculpture of Abraham Lincoln from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.. Model / Catalog Number: 2440. Artist Credit: Stamped on the reverse lower edge: J. FRENCH”. Subject: Seated Abraham Lincoln / “Lincoln in the Chair. Material: Heavy cast white metal / art metal with a dark bronze-toned patina finish. Original protective felt pads remain fully intact on the bottoms. Dimensions: Approximately 7″ High x 4.75″ Wide x 4.25 Deep. Weight: Very substantial, heavy foundry castings approx. 5 lbs each / 10 lbs total. Comprehensive Condition Report: Please review all listing photos closely, as they serve as a vital part of the condition description. Structural Integrity: One bookend is completely solid with zero structural issues or loose joints. The second bookend features an internal factory casting joint that has loosened slightly over the years, giving the seated Lincoln figure a small wobble/shift within the chair base. The figure remains fully anchored and intact, but has play in the joint. Cosmetic Base Wear: There is a small, minor nick/chip on the front corner edge of one base which reveals a speck of the lighter base metal underneath. Patina Finish Loss: Authentic age-related wear is visible on the lower perimeter. There is a noticeable section of finish rubbing/loss along the lower base edges and lower sides where the darker coating has naturally worn down, beautifully exposing the underlying coppery/bronze metal undertones beneath. This is an exceptional, heavy set of premium American foundry history that looks spectacular on a bookshelf, desk, or library display.
