Antique Cremona Rex Crank Phonograph
Cremona Rex acoustic wind-up phonograph in beautiful condition for it’s age! The Cremona Rex badge on the inside of the lid. The internal metal horn (rather than an external horn), which became common in the mid-1920s. The woodgrain-patterned interior lid covering and nickel-plated tonearm are consistent with phonographs from that era The small brass tag reads “Musik Foto Arnold Drage” and “Kristiansund” with a telephone number. Based on everything you see: Brand: Cremona Rex Type: Portable suitcase wind-up acoustic phonograph Likely country of manufacture: Probably Germany (many Cremona Rex machines were imported into Scandinavia). The leatherette-covered suitcase, corner protectors, nickel-plated tonearm, and internal horn are all characteristic of late-1920s portable phonographs. It’s still working and that’s impressive-it’s around 95 to 100 years old. Recommended: if you play it, only use steel needles once. These phonographs were designed for a new steel needle every record side. Reusing a needle can permanently damage your records. This phonograph needs restoring but it does crank up and run but has not been tested it has no factory volume control, comes with a skeleton key for the lock, (lock needs servicing) bag of stainless steel phono needles and one 78 RPM record: Fats Domino Blueberry Hill.
