Massive 1880 Antique Ormolu Bronze Enameled Automaton Musical Bracket Clock. An important, exhibition quality ormolu bronze bracket clock of massive proportions, the case decorated in Champlevé enamels and a variety of cast decorative elements that include a large urn and four full columns topped by acanthus buds, ladies faces on all four columns, egg and dart trim, four large detailed paw feet. The arched door with beveled glass opens to the clock face topped by an iridescent bird automaton within a painted diorama framed by an enameled bronze facade of tree foliage and accented by flora and fauna made from bird feathers. Champleve spandrels frame the clock dial, which is inset with four smaller dials to regulate the speed, chime, music and song. The large dial with black enamel roman numerals signed for the exclusive retailer Bailey, Banks and Biddle, Philadelphia and centered by an elaborate roundel of beautiful Champlevé enamels in high relief. Below the dial is an equally beautiful field of flowing tendrils in high relief Champlevé centered by an enameled shell motif. Mechanism : 3 individual mechanisms driving, clock, automaton and music. Clock – The movement is signed’W & H Sch. For Winterhalder & Hofmeier, Schwarzenbach. Chime strike on each quarter hour with Westminster chime quarterly on a series of wired gongs. Automaton located in the lower left side of the case, On each full hour strike, a 5 minute song and the automaton bird turns his head, flicks his tail and the beak opens and closes. The bellows for this function are in working condition. Music hidden inside the lower base, almost as big as the base itself, On the hour, it plays 2 minute music with at least four different songs. Condition : the entire clock is its in original condition and all functions are working properly, overall in. Very good condition, some enamel loss to’clamshell’ above the automaton. The sedan chair moves back and forth and the mother and baby kangaroos turn their heads back and forth. The men are linked to the handles and sway back and forth as the coach moves. Everything is functional but it could use some lube and cleaning. It is powered by two standard 110 volt plugs. There are portions of lace coming off, the men are missing fingers, there is torn fabric particularly on the one man’s shoe and the paneling on the side of the sedan chair, and the plaster or papier mache that the figures are made out of does have cracks in places. There is a rhinestone necklace that looks like it went on the mother kangaroo that is broken. Unfortunately, I do not know the history of this piece, but it is certainly one-of-a-kind and would be the centerpiece of any doll or automaton collection. This item has dirt and wear from display, moving, and storage, but overall displays very well for it’s age. It measures 14″×50.25″×55.25 not including the dolly it is pictured on. Offered for sale is an antique singing bird box crafted in the late 1800s/very early 1900s. This was crafted by OMM/Raymy of Geneva Switzerland and bears their rather peculiar rear mounted governor fan movement. The bird song is slightly different than most so that is a nice bonus. The bird animates and sings perfectly and the case is very nice. This is a rather modestly priced antique singing bird box and is 100% genuine so if you have always wanted a true antique singing bird box at a modest price, this example is perfect. I fully serviced (cleaned, adjusted, lubricated) the mechanical movement so this singing bird box operates perfectly. Buyers should be cautious when purchasing an antique singing bird box – always insist on seeing a photo of the mechanical movement for any singing bird box described as “antique”. This significantly impacts both current value and future value appreciation. The bird animates perfectly as follows: wings flap up/down, beak opens/closes, tail flutters up/down all the while singing to a beautiful oscillating bird song that is synchronized to the bird animation. I BELIEVE THIS AUTOMATON WAS FROM A MACY’S DEPARTMENT STORE WINDOW DISPLAY. HER RIGHT HAND HOLDS TWO GOLD EARRINGS AND IT MOVES UP AND DOWN WHEN YOU PLUG IT IT. THE ELECTRIC CORD HAS SOME CRACKING DUE TO AGE. THERE IS AN INSPECTION STICKER DATED 1962 SO I BELIEVE THAT IS WHEN IT WAS MADE. HER LEFT ARM HAS BROKEN OFF AND I HAVE NOT TRIED TO MEND IT. IT LOOKS LIKE A SIMPLE REPAIR WITH THE PROPER EPOXY GLUE. I BELIEVE A PLASTIC EPOXY GLUE WOULD HOLD WELL. THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT RESTORATION PROJECT AND WOULD DISPLAY WELL AFTER THE ARM IS REPAIRED. DUE TO AGE IT WILL NEED SOME GENTLE CLEANING. THE BROKEN ARM IS FIXED AND NOT MECHANICAL LIKE HER RIGHT ARM. THE MECHANICAL ARM GOES UP AND DOWN AND IT STOPS AND STARTS AT RANDOM TIMES. THERE IS A SMALL MECHANICAL WHEEL (SYNCHRON CLOCK MOTOR) THAT TURNS THAT STARTS AND STOPS THE MECHANICAL LIFT ARM THAT GOES UP AND DOWN. I THINK SHE LOOKS LIKE A FORTUNE TELLER HOLDING THE GOLD EARRINGS IN HERE HAND. THE EARRINGS ARE REAL, THEY ARE CLIP-ON AND THEY ARE VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY. THERE WAS A VINTAGE BEAD NECKLACE THAT BROKE AND SOME OF THE PLASTIC BEADS ARE MISSING. WE WILL INCLUDE THE NECKLACE IN CASE YOU WANT TO REPAIR AND ADD TO THE DISPLAY. THIS HAS A WOOD BASE THAT STANDS ABOUT 12 TALL. THE SITTING WOMAN IS ABOUT 26 TALL. THE WOOD BASE IS ABOUT 14 IN DIAMETER. THE DISPLAY WEIGHS ABOUT 16 POUNDS. THE ENTIRE DISPLAY IS ABOUT 37 1/2 TALL. IT WILL BE FULLY INSURED IN CASE THE POST OFFICE DOES NOT HANDLE THE PACKAGE PROPERLY. THE WOOD BASE HAS A PAINTED WOOD TWIG MATERIAL THAT WRAPS AROUND IT HIDING THE MECHANICAL ELECTRIC MOTORS. THERE IS AN INSPECTION TAG THAT READS THAT IT WAS PRODUCED BY THE ART MFG. I BELIEVE THIS WAS MADE IN THE USA BUT NOT SURE. THE SHOES AND CLOTHING ARE WORN AND TATTERED AS EXPECTED FOR THE AGE OF THIS DISPLAY. I SEE A SMALL CHIP IN THE BISQUE UNDER THE SCARF ON THE NECK THAT I POINT OUT IN THE PHOTOS. I ALSO SEE A SMALL CRACK IN THE ELBOW OF THE BROKEN ARM THAT WILL NEED JUST A LITTLE GLUE TO REPAIR. I WILL SPEND WELL OVER AN HOUR PACKAGING THIS SO PLEASE PLAN ON SPENDING SOME TIME GENTLY REMOVING THE PROTECTIVE BUBBLE WRAP WHEN YOU RECEIVE IT. THIS DOES NOT PLAY ANY MUSIC. The gorgeous ebony case is decorated with beautiful mother of pearl inlaid on the front. There are 5 brass pineapple form finials on the top to make the appearance of this clock even more impressive. The mother of pear floral inlaid can be found on the entire front section of the case, including the top crest, front door, and even the pedestal. The Roman numeral dial is made of porcelain without any cracks or hairlines. Engraved brass floral decorations surrounds the center dial. At the end of the sweeping second hand, you can find a Chinese double coin form, which represents good fortune and wealth. The time and the automaton feature can be seen through a large beveled glass panel. This clock strikes every 15 minutes, Petite Sonnerie striking. The mechanism is 8 day movement, driven by double fusee chain. It’s built with heavy brass and with engraving on the back plate. Also you can find a signature on it. The automaton feature plays every 15 minutes upon the clock striking. The figure opens his arm and reveals the banner showing, 4 Chinese character, which roughly translated, good fortune from god. Each side of the figure has a series of glass tube, which inside spins around to imitate a water fall. A music tone also plays on 8 bells while the clock strikes and the automaton playing. There is a glass window on each of the case that allows you to view the fusee chain movement. This clock is sitting on a rotating pedestal that gives you easy access to the movement. The entire clock is built with solid hardwood and solid brass, so it’s quite heavy. It measures 810mm tall, 430mm wide, and 225mm deep, or 32 inch tall, 17 inch wide, and 8.8 inch deep. This clock is currently in good working order and all features are working properly. All item will be carefully packed with real packing material, bubble wrap, Styrofoam, foam peanut, & NO newspaper. The gorgeous rosewood case is decorated with beautiful brass casting applications. There is a large Chinese pagoda on the top to make the appearance of this clock even more impressive. The Roman numeral dial is made of porcelain without any cracks or hairlines. Engraved brass floral decorations surrounds the center dial. The time and the automaton feature can be seen through a large beveled glass panel. This clock strikes every 15 minutes, Petite Sonnerie striking. The mechanism is 8 day movement, driven by double fusee chain. It’s built with heavy brass and with engraving on the back plate. The automaton features plays hourly followed by the hour striking. The complicated automaton plays as following, the right curtain rolls up first to follow the pair figures on single bars rolling out. As they are moving around to reveal themselves, those figures pull themselves up and spins on the bar. The rotation completes by both figures moves into the left curtain as it rolls up. Finally, after the last acrobatic figure rolls in, the curtain rolls down to complete this mechanically complicated automaton. It measures 72.5cm tall, 33cm wide, and 20cm deep, or 28-3/4 inch tall, 13 inch wide, and 8 inch deep. This clock is currently in good working order and all features are working properly.
