Original 1811 handwritten account and sworn statements from Botetourt County, Virginia, concerning Capt. John Beale and expenses associated with his children attending and boarding at school. Measures approximately 8 x 12 inches. The upper portion records charges for “washing, ” meaning the laundering of clothing and linens, for three of Beale’s children. The sworn testimony below concerns the schooling and boarding arrangements for Beale’s children. George and John Beale are specifically named, with the document stating that they boarded with the schoolmaster and attended his school. Eliza Beale is also named in connection with the schooling. The statements cover arrangements beginning in May 1807 and were sworn in Botetourt County in 1811. Importantly, the document is signed by William Anderson, whose signature appears at the conclusion of the sworn statements.
