I almost never grow an attachment to “things”. But this one is hard to give up. Before I go into the details. I want prospective buyers to know that I have more photos and can take more photos. This clock is AMAZING. I think this shows all of the expertise and quality of a piece crafted in 1827. There is a note on inside door that says clock made or repaired by R. Cashell Aug 14, 1827. There are also handwritten notes on the inside door that document the 1827 date. But please “judge” this by the construction and quality of the piece. The pendulum is detached from the clock. This will need repaired. I don’t know if this is a working clock. There were about 15 antique clocks for sale at that time. I just did not want to start turning things and mess something up. But if you know what I should move… Just let me know and I can pass that info to you. I would feel comfortable in assuming that someone took very good care of this. There is glass on all 3 sides of the top pieces. The glass has that “wavy glass” quality. Top brass finial is removable. The Weights are very unique. They weigh about 10 pounds each and are filled with some type of sand. Exterior of weight is some type of metal that has been crimped closed at top. Brass or bronze I would think. The moon face is so awesome. There is a scratch line running through some of the paint as you can see in photos. Don’t think this will be too hard to touch up as the scratch does not go through the moon face/eyes. Top portion has a wood inlay decorative oval. This top portion looks like it may have been repaired. See line in photo # 8. Repair looks professional to me and very good. I don’t have a key for the door. And Door Closes slightly askew. There is a “facade” (outer wood covering) of one of the legs that needs tacked back into position. See photo number 10. Height is 86.5″ without finial and 92″ including finial. Width is 20.25. Depth is 12.25. Please read my feedback and you will see that you have no worries. Native Americans used the moon to tell time by counting from one new moon to the next, known as a lunar cycle. Native Americans assigned names to the moon for each month to keep track of the seasons. Each name is a symbol of what the moon meant to Native Americans by virtue of its use, guidance and influence in their daily lives. January is named the “Wolf Moon” because during the cold nights wolves would howl hungrily outside the Native American villages. Some sources mention that Native Americans used stars’ positions to indicate specific seasons or events of the year such as harvest time, planting time, buffalo hunt time and so on. Their interpretation and use of the star positions and constellation vary significantly from the astrology of the modern world. The Cree were first contacted by Europeans in 1682, at the mouth of the Nelson and Hayes rivers in what is now northern Manitoba, by a Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) party traveling about 100 miles (160 km) inland. In the south, contact was later. In 1732 in what is now northwestern Ontario, Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, met with an assembled group of 200 Cree warriors near present-day Fort Frances, as well as with the Monsoni, (a branch of the Ojibwe). Both groups had donned war paint in preparation to an attack on the Dakota and another group of Ojibwe. After acquiring firearms from the HBC, the Cree moved as traders into the plains, acting as middlemen with the HBC. Live in close symbiosis with nature. They understand the importance of respecting life and try their best to co-exist with all life forms on Earth. The moon and stars have a special significance to Native Americans. Incredibly beautiful forged iron head with inlaid stars and a crescent moon. Originates from the Cree people. 22 inches long in the handle and 10 1/2 inches long in the head.
