Authentic Ancient Antique Native American Indian Stone Head Tomahawk Axe Hatchet
AUTHENTIC ANCIENT ANTIQUE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN STONE HEAD TOMAHAWK AXE HATCHET. The beautiful original and authentic Native American Indian stone head tomahawk was found at the estate of an elderly antiques and ancient artifacts collector. He and his wife had amassed a large collection of pre-1600 fine antiques, mainly consisting of Native American Indian artifacts, brass candlesticks, fine art and American War related items and artifacts, among other things. This piece is either a local Seneca County Iroquois Indian artifact, or may be Navajo or Apache as the bulk of the large collection was made up of artifacts from these three tribes. Provenance: Private Collection, Ontario County, New York, USA. Measures approximately 17 1/2″ tall by 5 3/4″ long by 2 thick. Condition: Great overall condition. 100% original, authentic and unrestored. There is a break in the wood on the underside of the tomahawk where it wraps around and reconnects to the handle (see pics) however it still holds the stone axe head fairly firmly in place. Would make an excellent display piece from one side as is, or fully restore to show off both sides. No other chips, breaks or other damage of any kind to the stone axe head. The wood handle has preserved very well and is very hard and solid. Thanks for looking at my online estate sale finds! The item “AUTHENTIC ANCIENT ANTIQUE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN STONE HEAD TOMAHAWK AXE HATCHET” is in sale since Tuesday, November 19, 2019. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Cultures & Ethnicities\Native American\ US\Pre-1600\Artifacts”. The seller is “rych1625″ and is located in Canandaigua, New York. This is a 16 page, oversized folder (12 X 9) – Copyrighted 1925. Inside is a booklet & oversized loose-leaf/glossy style rug pattern pages tucked in the back. This was a brochure you could get at Harry Carey’s Trading Post. He was a big Hollywood movie star that had this ranch/trading post in Saugus, California. There you would find Navajo rug weavers and you could pick the pattern you would like from this color/glossy brochure showing all your options and have them hand woven, per your selection. There are 7 sheets in the back with 9 various Navajo patterned rugs to choose from. Interestingly, you will probably take note that the trading post seems to have adopted a signature logo, that would later be used by the Germans during the war and the Holocaust. This seems to be more associated with Harry Carey as it’s also the logo on the brochure (and incorporated into one of the rugs). Little did they know how it would be used later in the 1930’s. There is also a studio portrait of Harry Carey in the booklet. The Navajo women were featured predominately in the photos & articles. It includes picture pages and the original mailing folder from the Trading Post as well. I’ve also included a last photo of the invite for my grandfather to work at the Ranch tending to the horses, as well as a photo of Harry Carey and his wife posing inside the Trading post store and a post card of the ranch as well. The item “1925 -Navajo Indian Trading Post Rug Patterns/ Harry Carey’s Ranch / Saugus, CA” is in sale since Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Native Americans used the moon to tell time by counting from one new moon to the next, known as a lunar cycle. Native Americans assigned names to the moon for each month to keep track of the seasons. Each name is a symbol of what the moon meant to Native Americans by virtue of its use, guidance and influence in their daily lives. January is named the “Wolf Moon” because during the cold nights wolves would howl hungrily outside the Native American villages. Some sources mention that Native Americans used stars’ positions to indicate specific seasons or events of the year such as harvest time, planting time, buffalo hunt time and so on. Their interpretation and use of the star positions and constellation vary significantly from the astrology of the modern world. The Cree were first contacted by Europeans in 1682, at the mouth of the Nelson and Hayes rivers in what is now northern Manitoba, by a Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) party traveling about 100 miles (160 km) inland. In the south, contact was later. In 1732 in what is now northwestern Ontario, Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, met with an assembled group of 200 Cree warriors near present-day Fort Frances, as well as with the Monsoni, (a branch of the Ojibwe). Both groups had donned war paint in preparation to an attack on the Dakota and another group of Ojibwe. After acquiring firearms from the HBC, the Cree moved as traders into the plains, acting as middlemen with the HBC. Live in close symbiosis with nature. They understand the importance of respecting life and try their best to co-exist with all life forms on Earth. The moon and stars have a special significance to Native Americans. Incredibly beautiful forged iron head with inlaid stars and a crescent moon. Originates from the Cree people. 22 inches long in the handle and 10 1/2 inches long in the head.
