An antique Putnam “Lightning” Fruit or Canning Jar with glass lid and wire closure, American, ca. Crude, blown Quart in attractive shade of Pale Yellow Amber; factory ground lip. Embossed: TRADE MARK / LIGHTNING on body. Base is embossed: PUTNAM / 58. Retains correct “3-date” glass Lid. Color Note: The glass color depicted in the photos is accurate. I would call this either a Honey Amber or Yellow Amber. Typical roughness on the ground lip noted for descriptive accuracy. There are a few air inclusions, as shown; no open bursts. Fine color and whittled character throughout. Beware of the numerous reproductions out there; this jar guaranteed old and authentic! Displays brilliantly in a sunlit sill or window shelf; this jar really glows in certain light! Highly-appropriate for any collection. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
