36 Star American Flag CIVIL War Era Original Antique

Excellent gift for the American History enthusiast. Original period American flag of 36 stars. Printed on cotton muslin, this flag measures 8 x 11 1/8 inches. The six rows of six stars are in a dancing pattern pointing in all directions. The orange tint of the stripes is indicative of 1860s vintage. The 36 star flag was official from 1865 through 1867 during the presidential term of Andrew Johnson. Since Nevada, the 36th state was admitted to the Union in in October of 1864 undoubtedly many flagmakers anticipated the official date of the following July 4 and produced these during Abraham Lincoln’s final months in office. This flag is in good condition with light wear from age, especially in the blue canton near the location where it was attached to a stick. It is an excellent small size for framing as part of a Civil War relic collection, a displ. Ay regarding Abraham Lincoln, or any historical collection regarding the history of mid 19th century America. Regarding the star pattern, there was no established pattern for stars in the American flag until 1916. The 6×6 arrangement was common for 36 star flags, and the stars could all point in one direction, or all stars in each row could point in one direction and alternate row by row, or all stars could point in random directions, as in this example. A 25-star American Flag, hand stitched. Hand stitched stars on both sides, and stripes, except for what appears to be a machine stitched line. On sleeve, and inscribed E. The 25-Star Flag: This Flag became the Official United States Flag on July 4th, 1836. A star was added for the admission of Arkansas (June 15th, 1836) and was to last for just one year. Size: 104 x 175. Flag retains its original rope and metal rings for flying. Star field has minimal wear. There is an area of fabric loss within the center star roughly. Mild staining on the top stripe. Info: Previous owner’s. Grandmother was Lita Harrington Beck, her Uncle was John W. John left the flag to Lita. She left the flag to his Father George H. Beck who in-turn left it to him. As the family story went – John Wesley Digger was either the Governor or Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania, and flag was flown over the State Capitol Building. The pattern on this flag is gorgeous. Very helpful sources have told me the flag may likely have been made by the Loanes company out of Baltimore. For sale is a gorgeous all hand-sewn homemade 34 star flag from the civil war. This flag is especially cool due to its elongated dimensions and small square canton in the upper left corner. Additionally the flag has 11 stripes which adds to its character. Flag has obvious wear. The canton has tears and holes and is detached from the rest on the flag along the middle right border. Stars are all in tact. This would make for a gorgeous piece once stabilized and possibly framed. There is a small area of paint staining on the second to bottom star.
