From a Pennsylvania estate of a collector who sought early pharmaceutical items. This item would have been used in the preparation of medicinal remedies in traditional apothecaries. With its unique base designed to fit into the opening of a wood burning stovetop, heat would be used to prepare certain medicines that were to be liquified.
