Antique Japy Freres (also LB w/ Lion). Gold & Black French Clock Case Woman w/ Cupid Topper. Slate Incised Pieces and Face Runs? Antique neoclassical style clock. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! Nice project clock for someone here. What a large clock in size and an elegant one as well that this clock is before one even starts to talk about the quality of construction and detailing. The clock probably dates to the 1880s to 1890s based upon the design of the clock movement and the maker. This clock case is made of a non-bronze material that then has a gold colored lacquer on it. Then what appears to be slate piece on the front with a gold incising design on them. The base just below the figurine is slate. Some minor chipping in places, but no cracks or repairs to report to you. The board at the bottom of the case that holds the gong is loose and needs some tightening attention. What is just so eye catching on this clock is the non-bronze topper of a Lady and a Cupid holding an arrow on the top of the case. Some sort of spelter topper here, this is not made of bronze. The detailing of this woman is very well done as is the detailing on the bench she is sitting on with the quiver of arrows leaning up against it. The detailing on the fingers, toes and face is exquisite and all the delicate details are still in place. Someone attached the figurine to the case by using a couple of mini-wrenches and then some wing nuts which obviously is not appropriate to the clock, but it works. On the case, there is a ribbon above the clock face with pineapples on each side. Then a full body cupid on the front center of the case. Do not see any maker’s marks or initials on the figurine. The figurine is securely attached to the rest of the clock. Rear door is still securely in place and has some older fabric in it still. Beautiful black colored clock face on this clock which appears to be made of slate as well. Then has the gold colored roman numerals painted on the face. No cracks or hairlines to the face. Beautiful gold colored raised numbers tacked on to the clock face. The clock has gold colorede hands that do not match. Erlin & Co on the top of the face. The bezel is firmly attached to the case that holds the beveled glass. The beveled glass is intact, some minor surface scratching. Great Japy Freres movement in this clock. Movement was just evaluated by Clock Doc. Missing one of the verges that make contact with the palette and teeth on one of the gears are bent and one of the teeth is missing. So, our Clock Doc is not in position to correct. The back plate of the movement also has a full lion figure with LB incised in it, as well as the number “10318” incised below that. There is also the number “1419” and “48” on the center bottom of the back plate above the logo. The number “1419” is on the movement and the number “1414” on the pendulum bob. The clock has a gong chime. Strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. The pendulum is with the clock. The time and strike springs feel sound when keyed. Pawl not holding time spring in place when wound all the time, so then the hands will spin. The movement could use a good cleaning and servicing. The rear door on the clock is in beautiful condition and securely attached to the case. The clock comes with a wind key. The clock stands 20.75″ tall (the statue is 11″ of that height), by 14.25″ across, by 6.25″ wide. The clock face is 3.75 across. The clock may be partially disassembled topper taken off, etc. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
