Rare Antique Jos Heinrichs Copper Food Warmer with Lid, Stand, Oil Lantern, c1900s
You have the opportunity to own this beautiful Antique Joseph Heinrichs Copper Food Warmer which includes Bowl with wooden handles, Lid with wooden knob, stand, and complete oil lantern. The bottom of the oil lantern is engraved JOS. HEINRICHS PARIS + NEW YORK. The warmer is made of copper with brass support pieces attached to the two wooden side handles. The stand is copper except for the circular support brace which holds the oil lantern. The oil lantern is copper with brass rotating handle to raise and lower the flame. There is a copper lid which screws on top of the oil lantern to prevent spillage when lantern is not in use. If this is considered a chafing warmer, the glass bowl insert is missing. I’m not sure if one was used in the early 1900’s. Entire Warmer measures 9.5″ tall including knob handle and 8.5″ without knob included. Bowl Measures 8.25″ in diameter without lid and excluding handles (10.5″ with handles included).

TRAVELLING FOOD VENDOR CHINA C1920 ANTIQUE Magic Lantern Slide PHOTO SHANGHAI? Provenance: From the estate of William Arthur Blackburn Leach. DOB: 2nd Jan 1872. Leach was born in Norwich where he attended a local grammar school, later becoming an apprentice carpenter and engineer. In 1902 after he had qualified, he went to China where he obtained a position in the Public Works Department of the Shanghai Municipal Council. He spent his working life in Shanghai until he left in 1926. During his time in China he held interests in a Christian Mission school and helped to support street children. He seized every opportunity to visit other parts of China and took thousands of photographs. He treasured silver items and bought much to take home. He travelled home at least four times during his stay in China and these return visits were round-the-world trips in which he travelled through and visited Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Egypt and The Holy Land, the Far East, Canada and USA. On his return to the UK he lived in Northampton where he was a lay preacher and a local councillor. He gave a great many talks on his experiences in China and the many other Countries he had visited. He died in 1962. Magic lantern slides were able to be enlarged using a lantern as a projector (much like 35mm slides) and William is likely to have selected his more interesting images to use in his talks about China. Lantern slides as a photographic medium in my opionion produce one of the finest photograpic images and as a result of the way they are produced images stay well preserved compared to other photographic mediums as a result of being protected behind glass. This slide is numbered: 895. Title: ” Travelling food stall ” Given the provenance likely to have been taken in or near Shanghai. Ref L587 CAB1 S3. Our shop has over 25000. Slides in it – please take a look for similar images. THE SLIDE IS APPROXIMATELY 8.2CM X 8.2CM OR IN INCHES 3.23″ X 3.23″. Please be aware that as the slide can be photographed both sides the image may be reversed in error.
