No black residue on the top of the bowl, and just a small amount of black inside the bowl. Stem and filter appear as shown, and are in excellent condition. Has been display and kept inside a climate controlled environment for decades. Very rare carved pipe to come across, and highly desired and collectible as they are seldom found for sale.
