This exquisite Danish name cloth (navneklud) features a traditional Adam and eve standing beside the tree of knowledge, complete with serpent. These “Name cloths” were educational tools used by young girls to demonstrate their sewing proficiency and literacy. They often served as a permanent record of their skills and family lineage. This one was meticulously completed. Full size, including unstitched canvas edges: 30″x 31.5″. Needlepoint only: 22.5″ x 25″.

Beautiful early quilt in very good condition. No holes or stains. Made with wool on top and lined with some type of flannel or a thin wool. I’m not sure. It is thick and warm. Maybe for a cabin or a Primitive Colonial decor. It is hand pieced with blue embroidery around the pieces. The measurements are a little different on its sides 75″x 74″x 76 1/2″x 75 3/4″.

This set is in excellent condition, I think never used. They were found in a New Jersey estate, part of a woman’s dowry, still tied in ribbon, never used. There is a duvet cover with button closure that measures 48″ wide X 75″ long, and 4 matching large shams, also with the button closures that all measure 29″ X 30″. They all have embroidered “ES” with two having the large monogram, and two having the smaller monogram. This set is really lovely! Please look closely at my photos for details.

The antique Victorian 1890 embroidered quilt features a floral pattern with vibrant colors and detailed hand stitching. Measuring 45″x70″, this rectangular quilt is made of silk and cotton materials. This quilt is true a work of art and is beautiful. The edging is missing on the front and the silk edging as well as a few silk squares have shattered over the years. There is some staining and color bleed in some parts from adjacent squares-visible mostly on the back. Despite the wear from years past, this quilt is still in good overall condition considering the age of the quilt. The hand stitches are still holding the pieces tightly together, and the embroidered images are as precise as ever shows how a talented the seamstress & quilter was. What an amazing labor of love it must have been to design, hand piece and stitch together such a beautiful quilt that it would be a treasured piece of the family linens for over a hundred years. This quilt is a textile time capsule of sorts and is a historical treasure as much as a testament to the amazing craftsmanship of quilters in days gone by.
