Up for sale is this fantastic antique Black Forest Table Cuckoo Clock Case. The clock has several pencil markings including one in a door 30/8/86 Morath. It also has a partial Morath Brothers label on the interior of the backboard. The number 491 is written on the verso of the ornately Carved front, on the backboard and on the interior of the case. I can’t make a definitive statement on the Maker, I’m just not an expert in this area. It very easily could be by Jean Baptiste Beha or a contemporary of his. Measures about 18 1/2″ x 14″. It does have Old repairs to the top deer’s head which was reattached and about a 7″ x 3″ section at the bottom center looks to have broken off and been glued back in place, there is a visible chip missing from that damage as well. Looks like some loss to the top deer ears, winding arbor holes filled, some damage and soiling to numbers, one door looks replaced. There is also some general aging and expected wear. I have many more pictures of the markings, damage & repairs, and details as well. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition. Not shown in these pictures are holes added to the bottom to accommodate a Weight Driven chain movement and pendulum.
