This attractive and historically important gilt and ebonized wood cabinet maker’s frame was re-purposed in the late 1800’s to house an old master oil using period moldings from the 1600’s with additions from the1800’s. The current surface is from the 1800’s and the frame measures 19 1/4″ x 16″ overall with 10 7/8″ x 9 5/8″ rabbet (13 3/4″ x 10 5/8″ rabbet without inner frame) and 10 1/4″ x 7 1/8″ reveal (13 1/2″ x 10 1/8″ without inner frame). It is sturdy and shows some old chips with old touch-up and VERY minor worming. Beers Brothers were an important framing studio who were also known as purveyors of old master paintings. Their framing often incorporated period moldings that were custom fit to period art works of the same era.
