This is a true estate find. Has since been restored through an etank and undergone several rounds of seasoning. Skillet sits as flat as these skillets sit if you are lucky to find one with the spider still there as much as this one. Cooking surface is flat and free of any chips or cracks. Smooth with some minimal pitting. Not bad for a skillet for about 130 years old. Sides (inner and outer) also have some minimal pitting. I have up for sale a wonderful restored antique circa late 1890s to early 1900s Cast Iron Round Oak Dowagiac , MI – P. Beckwith model D-18 Wood Burner Stove. No finial , its missing ornamental top piece but everything else appears to be present. The cylinder is in excellent shape, its approx 1/8 thick steel. There are a couple of trivial imperfections/ repairs as noted in the condition report. There is no nickel plating, its all black – any wear is meager. I will leave it loose , so its easier to handle and move around. Please contact me for a quote. They cover the most of the midwest going east. One of the feet has damage to the upper part, shown in the last pic. Pic #10 shows a weld repair on one of the foot rests. Erie #8 cast iron “spider” skillet. Yes, this is the real thing : Very good restored condition. A very rare “holy grail” item for cast iron collectors everywhere. Measures 11 1/8 inches wide at the spouts and 2 inches tall. Weighs in at only 2 pounds 12 ounces!! No chips or cracks. Sits flat on a glass surface with no wobble or spinning. The exterior surface is very very good. The spider logo is clear and crisp with very little wear. The interior surface does have some moderate pitting that can be seen in the photos. It isn’t perfect, but also doesn’t have the much higher price tag of the more perfect examples out there : Will make a great addition to any collection and will display nicely. About Cast Iron Archaeology. Restoring vintage and antique cast iron cookware is my passion. For me this is a labor of love. The difference between my cast iron and the others out there is the attention to detail. First, I strip it down to the bare iron with my all natural process. Then, I season each piece using a combination of beeswax and natural oils. Seasoning takes one hour at a time in a 450 degree oven and is repeated as many times as it takes to achieve that nice glossy coating. The entire process takes about a week to complete. This is a professional restoration done right from start to finish and I would put my cast iron up against any you can find online or anywhere else. Thank you for considering a product from Cast Iron Archaeology! Some as old as 120 plus years. And they have seen much use. They are not perfect. They will have utensil marks and small scrapes and nicks. We try to point out any significant abnormalities or damage in our listings. When it is stated that the skillet is flat, it means that there is no bow, wobble or spin. It is very rare that a vintage cast iron skillet will have absolutely no movement on a glass surface. Most were not perfect coming out of the foundry. There will likely be some small amount of movement on a flat surface. If the skillet is absolutely perfect I will definitely point that out. 1884 Shepard Hardware Company Punch & Judy Cast Iron Mechanical Bank. This highly sought after mechanical Punch & Judy cast iron bank was made around 1884 by the Shepard Hardware Company of Buffalo, New York. This bank was produced in 3 different sizes which had small, medium, or large letters on the theaters marquis. This version is the small letter version. It is in great all original condition with no restorations, repairs, and no touch ups. It shows the usual patina and wear from age and play, but we think that the faces on both Punch and Judy are some of the best we have seen in a while. I have tested the bank and it is in working order. To operate the bank you pull out the top lever on the right hand side until it clicks in place making Punch raise his club to Judy. The coins can be removed by unscrewing the base plate. This bank does have the original base plate that is often missing. The bank is approximately 6 1/8 x 7 ½ x 3 ¾.
