Title: Dene Athabascan Double Volute Dagger. Description: The dagger is made from a single piece of metal, possibly from a file or other steel product. It is characteristic of those made by the Dene (Athabascan) in the mid to late 1800’s. Prior to contact with Euro-Americans, the Athabascan people made their edged weapons from Native copper then switched to file or steel for their blades post contact. According to researchers John Witthoft and Frances Eyman (Metallurgy of the Tlingit, Dene and Eskimo, Expedition Magazine, 1969), the Athabascan used both heat treatment and stress hardening as methods for controlling strength and edge-hardness. The unique handles with single or double volute motif may have been influenced by the eastern Algonkian people or may have older roots from the people of northern China or Siberia. According to the researchers mentioned above, this design shows up in North America only with the Athabascan and with a type of hair ornament used in Tlingit culture. The Athabascan used these knives in a utilitarian manner. Some were attached to long staffs and used in hunting bear or were used to wound a moose or caribou driven into the water where a hunter could paddle near the animal and stab it with his dagger. On reaching shore, the wounded animal would be dispatched with bows and arrows or other weapons. Original hide wrapping on the handle area. Originates from my grandfather’s estate. For your consideration is a antique Seth Thomas No. Case, dial, hands, pendulum, key and weight all original to the clock. The movement is unmarked and I do believe it to be original as they made these for about a 20 year period with out markings. Original paper label on bottom inside of case, nearly impossible to make out. You can see age wear to the original varnish finish on the case. I mounted the clock, and wound it up and it runs great. Original Ansonia Clock Company “Antique Standing” Floor Clock. Floor clock, “Antique Standing”, circa 1901. Large mahogany cased clock standing 94 high, 2 inches less than 8 feet, and a goodly number of brass ornaments from head to toe. This magnificent grandfather clock is 100 percent original and untouched The movement is a chain pull up, 8 day, strikes a gong on half hours, and is running. The 10 inch silver dial is etched and has black paint in the etchings. There are side doors to access the movement. The clock is all original and ready for a nice home. Ansonia Clock Company Ansonia Clocks were made by a clock manufacturing business which started in Ansonia, Connecticut, in 1851 and which moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1878. For sale is the above original period leather blood chit worn by a flyer of the AVG Flying Tigers serving in China prior to the US entering into WWII. It is of 5-piece leather construction; the white sun is 2-pieces, the blue canton, the red part of the fly, and the white writing part. It is in fantastic condition for its age, with just a little separation in the bottom left hand corner which may have been done when it was removed from the jacket. While my house is a pet and smoke free home, I cant guarantee the things I obtain are; Ill mention if I smell any odor or see any hairs. The item(s) you see in the photos is the item you’ll receive! 60s Original vintage Mid Century Modernist large atomic rocket tripod floor lamp. Stunning large 60s rocket floor lamp with an amazing modernist Mid Century abstract circles in orange, brown and black fabric shade. These rocket lamps are very popular and becoming scarce in this condition as they are quite fragile and tend to be damaged easily. Rocket style floor lamps are usually presented with a spun fibreglass shade so this one is quite unique and rare. The legs are teak, a winner combination for the Mid Century interiors. The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, giving a very worm glow to any room, and full working order not PAT tested so it will need to be checked by a qualifies electrician before put to use. These lamps are very popular for their dramatic effect and this one is a special example for its size and pattern. It will certainly be a fabulous addition to any modern/retro environment.
