One of my best conditioned cutlasses, from releasing my collection : A 1833 model all steel French Naval Boarding cutlass with scabbard with black painting all over the handle. The makers name and date of “Manufacture Rol de Chatellerault Nbre 1838 ” is engraved clearly and very visible in script on the back side of curved blade. You can see clearly the anchor engraved on one side and a remenant of the anchor on the other side that means the blade has possibly been polished in the past. There are 2 tiny armory inspection marks on the sleeve at the base of the blade. And 3 armory inspection marks on the thumb rest of the handguard. Overall, the sword and the leather scabbard is in exceptionell good antique condition. With very little spots and dots, no rost and nice patina on the brass fittings. The brass fitting on the guard side has a 4 millimeter dot. USA /Rest Int.
