It looks to be A “Pennsylvania German” or Folk Art Sampler: It features classic motifs like symmetrical birds (often called “distelfinks” in Pennsylvania Dutch tradition) perched on a flower basket. A Punch Paper Embroidery: The base material looks like “perforated paper” or “punch paper, ” a popular medium for such projects in the late 19th century. Dated and Initialed: The top row typically includes the stitcher’s initials and a date. The date on this piece is 1880. To get a more basic understanding of Samplers.
