Antique Gustav Becker Vienna Regulator Wall Clock 1924 2 Weight Runs Strikes. Serial No 1947959 P655 Movement. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself! This is a very sought after maker’s clock. The wood case has a lot of its’ original elegance. The condition the case and the veneer is in pretty good shape. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don’t have the overhead that the higher end houses and clock shops experience. The wood case is all there, and has been tightened again by our Clock Doc where a little loose. No loose veneer, all the carved column pieces are still there and look appropriate to the clock, not replacements. The locking latches for the door are still on the side of the case. Hinges for the door are in working order. The back panel on this clock really shows a lot of age, but not cracked or repaired at all (appears to be pine). No topper on this clock. The two side bottom finials are in place, the bottom center one is there as well. The brass leveler plates are on the bottom of the case, not the leveling screws, some newer screws came with the clock. Nice intact front glass piece on this case. Both of the side pieces of glass are in place as well. As noted before, the glass on the front of this clock case is just beautiful and intact. All the glass that is in place is good, with with no blistering or cracks. Cannot say if original, but looks appropriate. We just wiped it down, no alcohol. The clock face is made of a an enameled metal. There is a Gustav Becker mark on the clock face and engraved on the back plate of the movement. The clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Gustav Becker was a Czechoslovakian (spelled with a “T” on the front of it on the back of the movement) clock maker from the mid 1800s to early 1900s. His clocks, especially in this good of condition are very hard to find. The brass movement has been serviced by Clock Doc and is in running and striking condition. This is a “P655″ movement. The serial number is 1947959 which would date this clock to around 1924. The movement design and hanger for the pendulum matches up with other Becker movements I have found pictures of online. The movement seems to be original to the case, slides into place and then held there with two finger screws. Beautifully detailed cable pulleys. The brass shelled leaded weights are with the clock. One of the brass shells has a ding on one end. This is a two weight driven one. This is a time and strike clock. Great wood pendulum rod and brass bob on this clock that look appropriate to the clock. The circular metal chime rod is intact and check out the nice finish still on the brass pendulum bob! The clock stands 46-3/8″ tall, by 19.5″ across, by 8 wide. The clock face is 7 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. To get a quote to your location just let us know and we will send the contact information over to you.
