Antique 1886 Gustav Becker Vienna Wall Regulator Clock Running & Striking
Antique Gustav Becker Vienna Wall Regulator Clock Running & Striking 1886. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! This is a very sought after maker’s clock. The wood case has a lot of its’ original elegance. The condition the case and the veneer is in pretty good shape. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don’t have the overhead that the higher end houses and clock shops experience. Great swirl carving on the bottom piece of the case below the door. Same with the beautifully carved wood columns on the sides of the case door. No loose veneer, all the carved column pieces are still there and look appropriate to the clock, not replacements. The locking latch for the door is still on the side of the case. Hinges for the door are in working order. The back panel on this clock really shows a lot of age, but not cracked or repaired at all (appears to be pine). The piece of wood just above the clock face has a split in the veneer, see pic. There is no topper piece on this wall clock. The case on the left side just below the door has had a piece broken off that is no longer with the clock. No topper on this clock. The two side bottom finials are in place, the center one is not there. You can see bore worm holes on the case. The brass leveler plates are on the bottom of the case, as is one of the leveling screws. Nice intact front glass piece on this case. One of the two side pieces of glass is missing. As noted before, the glass on the front of this clock case is just beautiful and intact. All the glass that is in place is good, with with no blistering or cracks. Cannot say if original, but looks appropriate. The glass up by the clock movement could use a good cleaning on the inside. We just wiped it down, no alcohol. The clock face is made of a an enameled metal. There is no Gustav Becker mark on the clock face (on the back plate of the movement). The clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Gustav Becker was a Czechoslovakian (spelled with a “T” on the front of it on the back of the movement) clock maker from the mid 1800s to early 1900s. His clocks, especially in this good of condition are very hard to find. This clock was just serviced by Clock Doc. The movement was cleaned and oiled and the old cables were replaced with new braided brass ones, so no chance of a weight falling issue. Ignore the fishing cables in pic # 5. See pic #2 for the new brass braided cables that were installed. This is a “P27″ movement. The serial number is 584423 which would date this clock to around 1886. The movement design and hanger for the pendulum matches up with other Becker movements I have found pictures of online. The movement is older as just slides into place, no locking mechanism. Beautifully detailed cable pulleys. The brass shelled leaded weights are with the clock. This is a two weight driven one. The movement has the tapered pins out of it that hold the clock face to the movement itself. The cables the weights are on were replace with new braided brass ones. This is a time and strike clock and has a bim bam strike with the two strike hammers. The clock will bim bam once on the half hour and then bim bam the number of hours on the hour. The two strike rods are in place. Great wood pendulum rod and brass bob on this clock that look appropriate to the clock. The metal rod is intact and check out the nice finish still on the brass pendulum bob! The clock stands 37″ tall, by 16-7/8″ across, by 6.75 wide. The clock face is 6 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. To get a quote to your location just let us know and we will send the contact information over to you. You can also pick it up in Wilmington, DE. Will also offer to deliver the clock to within 125 miles of Wilmington, DE one way. Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don’t be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to have this nice Gustav Becker Clock in their collection. Ant Gustav Becker Vienna Regulator Clock Wood Case Leaded Beveled Glass Runs.
