Antique Egyptian Cleopatra Pharaoh bookends Galvano bronze clad orig paint 1920s

Well, I don’t actually know that she is supposed to be Cleopatra, but she is sitting on the throne, wearing the pharaonic headress (and nothing else), so she must be the queen. She has her foot on a ball, representing sovereignty over the world. Probably mid-1920’s when the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in 1922 set off another wave of Egyptian Revivalism in the decorative arts. But she is my favorite of the various pharaoh bookends produced in that period. Bronze-clad, a manufacturing process by which a skin of bronze was deposited on a plaster form through electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel, and heft of solid bronze yet were still affordable by the middle class. No maker’s mark (there would have been foil labels on the bottoms) but my guess is P. Mori & Son, Inc, established in 1889 and operating in NYC under the trade name Galvano Bronze. No breaks in the cladding, no big dents, no mashed corners on the bases, just a few small dings and nicks. Paint is original and still mostly intact. Fun to note that on the piece on the right, the painter lost track of which decorative bands on the back of the throne got which colors. There is some chipping and wear consistent with age and use. Both pieces sit flat and stable. 7 inches tall; 4 1/4 inches across the base at the back; 3 1/2 inches front to back. Weighing 2 1/4 pounds EACH PIECE. Perfect gift for the dominatrix in your circle. Due to its age, the silk is very delicate and has some tears on the top. Also one tassel is missing. It works perfectly with a vintage cord, but can easily be rewired. Up for consideration is a beautiful antique 1920s Karess Woodworth art nouveau silver plated compact with mirror. Hallmarked with patent # 1570382. Beautiful Art Deco/art nouveau period etched/embossed relief of flower and scroll motif on top, bottom and inside on mirror back. It measures 2 long x 1.75 wide closed. Absolutely beautiful compact for the discerning collector. This piece is silver plated. Sadly Its missing its inside oval cutout inserts for rouge And powder. The mirror separates the two sections with mirror on center. The inserts were Hallmarked Karess New York Paris. The patent # is Hallmarked on mirror surround. This compact was invented by Arthur S Lyhne, he invented a famous lamp too. He applied for his patent for this compact on 7/19/1922. He was not approved for patent however until 1/19/1926. 1920s Gentlemans Elswick Popular Truss Light Roadster Vintage Antique Bicycle

Over the next month I’ll advertise a variety of vintage bicycles and you are. Welcome to make (realistic) offers on them. 1920s Gentlemans Elswick Popular Truss Light Roadster. RARE SURVIVOR, READY TO RIDE. Ladies & Gents versions in. The crossed tubes of an Elswick patent truss frame, produced by the company from 1892/1893 onwards, were claimed to give greater rigidity to a bicycle. Apparently the direct strain from head to bracket was dealt with more thoroughly and strains from twisting were also combated, creating an infinitely more rigid frame. Whether it improved the bicycle or not, there was a good case for creating unique features in bicycles so they stood out in the crowd and attracted extra attention from the cycling press. Elswick’s twisted down tubes becsme their signature feature. Frame strength was a key issue of the day: frames were getting lighter by the year, and cycle enthusiasts were keen to put new designs through their paces to find their stress points. As well as crossframes, many of the top manufacturers were adding extra tubes to their diamond frame bikes to add psychological strength to the machine, ie to make it appeal to riders who felt they needed a stronger frame on their bike: large bikes had two top tubes, Royal Enfield was successful with their Girder frames, and Premier used an extra tube in the opposite direction to the Girder. Elswick did also try out the American Iver Johnson patent design, described by them as a truss-tube, but also known as an arch-frame. The Popular Truss twisted down tube design is featured on both the Gentlemen’s diamond frame machine and Ladies’ loopframe.
