Antique Emerson 12646 Oscillating Desk Fan
Emerson 12646 – one of the nicest examples of an Emerson oscillating desk fan that you will ever see. Louis around 1910, this fan is constructed of cast iron and brass and made to last basically forever. The motor uses Emersons single-bearing design. The rotor spins on a long bearing instead of two smaller bearings for the ultimate in reliability and quiet operation. An oil reservoir feeds oil to the bearing and when the fan runs, a spiral groove in the rotor circulates the oil through the bearing. Being an early AC motor, is uses a centrifugal start switch to energize start windings during startup to create a rotating magnetic field to spin the motor in the correct direction. During start and stop, you can hear the scratchy sound of the switch – part of the allure of these early fans designed during a very inventive age of technological advancement. Unlike many fans of this age that have been repainted and polished, this fan retains its original finish on the brass blade and cage and has original, shiny paint. The first Emerson oscillating mechanism uses a series of gears and levers to sweep the fan back and forth. A wheel on top has five places to attach the lever arm, allowing you to set how far right/left the fan oscillates. Connecting the arm to the center hole turns off the oscillation. Starts and runs well. Very little paint loss. The blades are straight and true, but have little bends at the top. The speed switch works well and has the round fiber cover. The wires from the motor to the base and from the base to the wall have been replaced. Electrically and mechanically, everything is it top condition and is safe to run. This grade fan is something that all fan collectors would be very proud to own. It will certainly increase in value every year. Or, I can hand deliver to east coast AFCA fan meets. Here is a video. The item “Antique Emerson 12646 Oscillating Desk Fan” is in sale since Saturday, December 8, 2018. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Kitchen & Home\Electric Fans”. The seller is “chestertownelectric” and is located in Chestertown, Maryland. Offered for sale is an exceptional Collection of Victorian Microscope slides housed in the very best R&J Beck Mahogany Cabinet. Carefully collected over a period of over 10 years, it represents the finest group of quality specimens by a range of Professional slide mounters. The contents include specimens from all areas of the natural world. From the geology that makes up our earth and all the creatures and plants that inhabit the planet, to exhibition slides that demonstrate the mounters skill, all from the heyday of this fascinating period of discovery and interest in the scientific and natural world. A Cabinet of slides of this magnitude is rarely offered for sale. The contents have been specially selected as the finest of their type, both for condition and presentation. Some slides are exceptionally rare, and many are, I consider unique. I consider this collection to be world class and is, in my experience as good as, or better than any found in an institution or most high end private collections. I cannot emphasise strongly enough how much time and effort has gone into collecting and compiling this magnificent collection. A full description follows of each drawer and details of some of the slides of special interest. This is the 1941 Zenith 6 tube radio and it is gorgeous. This is the popular model 6S527 and the size is 15.5″ long x 8.5″ tall x 7.5 deep. The cabinet is in beautiful condition and I it looks to the original finish. All I did was buff it up a tad. There are very nice Walnut and Maple veneers along with very nice Maple inlays. A lot of colors and plenty of wood grains throughout. The top of this radio is also very nice to look at. The dial face is in excellent condition, framed in, and has the popular brass “Z” dial pointer. Additionally, there are 5 Push Buttons that are surrounded by a brass plate with the Zenith name. There are rounded corners and a very nice speaker grill. There are some light scratches on the right side of the cabinet. The three original “Z” Zenith knobs have been cleaned and resealed. A built in factory installed “Loop” antenna receives stations very well across the dial. There is a new dial cover, new dial lamp (2X), new AC Power cord, new dial cord, and new Filter/Audio capacitors installed. The 6 tubes have been tested and the remaining components were checked & replaced if needed. This is a wonderful example of the American Radio Industry waiting for you to display in your favorite place in the home or office. The radio plays and receives stations excellent with the built in “Loop” antenna. There are no issues. The speaker is in excellent condition and has very good volume, tone, and clarity. These models are excellent players and great lookers! Thank you very much for stopping in! Note: The last Push Button MUST be pushed in to allow for Tuning with the Tuning knob. Please look at my other radio’s I have listed. Note: I will be out of town till the 12th of December. You don’t get to see a hammer like this every day. According to my reading about this style of hammer. It was made because nails were expensive and the extra claws enabled you to pull the nail out without bending it or putting a piece of wood under the hammer to raise it. Bringing it out straight meant you could use it again. I did NOT test this theory. No maker name is available. No previous owner has initialed it. The hammers face is mostly clean. The claw edges are clean. There are a few dents scattered about. The handle fit is tight. The handle, where it enters the head, appears to be stressed. I would NOT want to pound or extract nails with it. The handle is 13 1/2. Claw to face is 5 3/4. Top of one claw to the bottom of the others is 3 1/2.
