Breathtaking Rare Antique German Black Forest Bahnhausle Railroad Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally large number of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an absolutely breathtaking antique cuckoo clock that was produced about 120 years ago in the Black Forest of Germany. It is referred to as a Bahnhausle (Train House) clock or Railroad clock since it was the German railroads who initially commissioned their local manufacturers to create a common design for use in their railroad stations around the 1890’s. The clock was so popular that a few were made for households around the world. This clock is one of the finest I’ve ever seen and it still works quite well here. It is an impressive size too measuring about 20 1/2″ high (from the tip of the leaves on the upper frame to the bottom of the finial on the bottom and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6″ or so at its deepest point, and about 14 1/2 across the top. The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood that is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. It has a beautiful mahogany finish and features gorgeous inlays all over the front. There is a large, fancy fret work hanging from the roof eaves on either side of the case, fancy round finials on the lower frame, and two fancy wooden finials as well. The case is adorned with some of the fanciest carvings I’ve seen in ages and fifteen deeply carved wooden grape leaves and clusters of grapes near the bottom. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy hands to point out the time. The numbers are the old style and nailed on to the dial, not glued on. The top is a separate carving and is not held in place; it’s just sitting there. You may wish to attach it more permanently… That’s up to you. There is a hinged wooden door on either side of the case. These are secured with a metal latch and open easily to allow access to the clock movement should any adjustments ever become necessary from this angle. The clock has a fitted wood back and is secured with a metal latch. I believe the back is a replacement door and there is a mostly intact label on it that has an “American Cuckoo Clock” name on it along with operating instructions. The door easily removes to allow access to an early style of a weight driven movement. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The tall wooden bellow whistle tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird with flapping wings opens the small fancy wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the case and when the cuckoo activity is finished, the bird retreats back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, cuckoos as it should, and keeps good time too. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we do not know the service history though the movement does show signs of having been maintained over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its new home. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve this classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a large carved grape leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and didn’t see any damage or missing parts. I think the upper frame may be a replacement but if it is, it is a good one. This clock is one of the finest examples of Black Forest craftsmanship I have seen in a very long time. It doesn’t matter where you display it in your home or office, it will get noticed for its uniqueness, high quality, and just Wow! You won’t find another quite like it! If you like this item and I’m sure you do, then I know you’ll love the other items. Check back frequently since we’re listing a lot of antique/vintage items as time allows! We’d be glad to send more pictures if available; just ask! My wife and I have been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectors items over the years. But now is a good time to start clearing out the things we no longer wish to keep. We do all that we can to accurately describe each item to the best of our ability. Day following the close of sale. ANTIQUE RARE BLACK BELSNICKLE WITH MICA AND TEETH c1915
ANTIQUE BLACK BELSNICKLE WITH TEETH c1915. Offering a lovely old black belsnickle with rare-to-find teeth! He’s 8 tall and made of papier-mache and has a very stern expression with nice molded facial features including swan eyebrows, sleepy blue eyes, and wispy beard, as well as hand-painted details. He has sparkly mica on his coat with gold accents on the tip of his hood and bottom trim of his coat. His condition is very good with only age-related wear to his face including dirt, dust, and what appears to be a water spot on his cheek and tip of nose. All of this is more pronounced in the photos but hardly noticeable when seeing it in person. His white beard has darkened from age. He has no chips, cracks, delicate areas or any damage. His feather tree appears to be a replacement. T he base he stands on has minor wear and his candy container is open with the paper seal removed as is the case with most antique belsnickles. See all photos that describe this belsnickle best. Some photos are taken indoors and others outdoors so you can see him clearly and accurately. Antique Glass Insulator Star Yellow Green CD164 Black Carbon Junk Rocks Flaws
Antique Glass Insulator Star Yellow Green CD164 Black Carbon Junk Flakes Rocks. Presented for your consideration we are offering this extremely rare, antique, threaded pintype glass electric insulator. Quite rare with several unique irregularities, a result of primitive and endearingly clumsy manufacturing making it quite unusual and, hence, desirable, in addition to the rare color and embossing combination. Embedded within insulator at four (4) distinct places we find black carbon, one of the rarest substances to be found within insulators, and we see them in the following places, going top-to-bottom. Right crown by mold line, roundish in shape, measuring about 4mm x 4mm (see photo 2 & 7). Right rear wire groove by mold line, horizontal in shape, just about 2 straight below one in crown described above, about 5mm x 2mm (see photo 8). Largest of them is located just above STAR logo in front skirt could it have any better placement? , in an oblong shape, quite thick and with substance, measuring about 10mm x 4mm (see photos 1, 3, 4). At right front bottom rim of skirt about 1 1/2 right of STAR, quite thick as can be seen when looking from bottom, as it covers nearly entire thickness of glass, and 10mm long x 4mm thick (see photos 4 & 11). Insulator is peppered throughout with whitish “snow” flakes and brownish rocks, some worthy of particular mention, again going from top down. Front center crown directly above STAR logo is a brownish white embedded object, not very large, but great placement, about 4mm x 2mm (see photo 1, 7, 10). Right front wire groove protrusion, just below round carbon and by mold line, is a nice sized thick crystallized white chunk, easy to notice as it contrasts with the deep green glass, about 4mm x 4mm (see photo 2). In left rear wire groove are two large brown rocks or junk, just behind mold line, and, again, blatantly obvious as they are near glass surface and contrast wonderfully with color, each about 5mm x 5mm (see photo 6). Front skirt on upper left point of star about 3mm x 3mm (see photo 1 & 3). From dome, and throughout, are hundreds of various sized white and crystallized flakes, and limited to 12 photos, we thought it best of course to capture the largest, as well as the condition of the insulator in general (see all photos). There are some great large bubbles, mostly oblong, throughout insulator, with largest and most interesting concentrated around skirt and in wire groove (see all photos). THESE ARE EXTREMELY DESIREABLE & SOUGHT AFTER IMPERFECTIONS and to find an insulator with so many irregularities makes it even more valuable to the collector. Specifications are as follows. 3 3/4 High x 3 1/4 Diameter. Side wire groove, single petticoat, smooth bottom. In excellent vintage condition, with the following very minor faults. A shallow clam chip at front skirt just left of STAR, measuring 1 1/4″ Long x 1/4″ wide (thickness of glass) x 2mm high, so not very noticeable unless viewing insulator from bottom looking up (see photo 1, 3, 4, 11, 12). Fleabite on rear crown <1mm x 1mm (photo 10). Thin scratch on rear skirt about 180 degrees around from STAR and just beneath large bubble about 1/4 long (photo 9). WE ARE ALWAYS OVERLY CRITICAL IN OUR DESCRIPTIONS, SO THERE IS NO DISCREPANCY UPON RECEIPT WE NOTE EVERY FLAW, NO MATTER HOW MINOR. Please look at all photos as they are an integral part of description. This is a welcome addition to your collection, to begin a new collection, or simply to display a piece of history, and we are thrilled to offer it to market for your pleasure. 1952 Schwinn Black Phantom Antique Vintage Bicycle Rare Original
Up for sale is a very original 1952/53 Schwinn Black Phantom! Lots of character on this one some may call it patina! This bike is fairly rough as far as most black phantoms are concerned, but that’s what makes this one stand out. With at least 90% of all phantoms out there sitting in restored condition, it’s become tough to find unrestored examples. Here’s your chance! Obviously the seat is incorrect, but I believe everything else is original on the bike. One other large flaw is the rust hole in the front fender behind the headlight housing. The headlight internals are all present, but rusty. The switch does not move. There are a few pieces missing: the taillight, headlight lens, and key [key half is broken and stuck in the lock] The hubs and bearings have been cleaned and greased. Original Schwinn front brake and handle. The front brake line is not frozen. The front drum brake mechanism actually works, but it is not effective as the pads are worn out I believe. Also, check out the original DeLuxe pedals with killer matching patina! This bike actually rides pretty nice honestly! It could use a little TLC and tires to become an everyday cruiser, or it could be a great candidate for restoration. I literally pulled this bike out of a barn about 3 years ago – so you can safely call it a “barn-find” if you would like! The price we agree to is what you pay to get the bike to your door! Large Early Antique German Black Forest Finely Carved Cuckoo Clock Phillip Haas
Here is a large antique. Carved German Black Forest cuckoo clock in excellent running condition. Complete, with good bellows and excellent action of the cuckoo as shown in video. Unusually large and heavy weights power cast brass movement with good cuckoo action. Measures 18 tall, plus weights and pendulum. Very nice finish on finely detailed carvings, heavy brass chains, original Phillip Haas & Son set up label, and nicely painted cuckoo bird with jointed wings all make this a fine collectors clock. Missing minute hand but otherwise complete. Ready to hang on wall and enjoy. With mild age related wear. Please note: this clock has continued running but the cuckoo has stopped for some reason. Now it only comes out when the hands are advanced. This may be a simple adjustment or two.
