The cabinet has multiple veneer inlays that display the high quality craftsmanship of those days. With an almost perfect cabinet, is has had a few repairs to the bottom veneer, most of which you will be very hard pressed to find. What also makes it stand out is the green “magic eye” tuning eye tube. The one in this radio is bright, strong and works perfectly as you tune in your favorite stations. It has five tubes plus the eye tube. It has very good reception, selectivity and sensitivity using the external antenna lead with 10-12 feet of wire (included). It has a rich and mellow tube sound through a six inch speaker. It also has tone control to further enhance your listening preference. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated. The top trim was redone using dark walnut toner to match the original. The entire cabinet was given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The glass dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The grill cloth behind the wooden grill was replaced with an almost perfect match to the original. The original knobs and push buttons were polished. One of the push buttons is a replacement I made from wood guess which one! Only three of the mechanical push button are working. The original back cover/antenna assembly is in good condition. The original felt pads are on the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the included external wire antenna. This very desirable, elegant and rare radio is now 82 years old and looking almost like it did when new. And, now that it is completely restored, it sounds like it too! Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast, including the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941! It will continue to bring reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for. It is a wonderful addition to a collection or as a gift for someone to cherish. It is a heavier radio for its size due to the transformer and quality wood construction, but well worth it! It can also be affected by FAX machines and other devices. If you are having reception interference, try turning off those devices and check for improvement. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
