Up for sale is this fantastic antique Black Forest Table Cuckoo Clock Case. The clock has several pencil markings including one in a door 30/8/86 Morath. It also has a partial Morath Brothers label on the interior of the backboard. The number 491 is written on the verso of the ornately Carved front, on the backboard and on the interior of the case. I can’t make a definitive statement on the Maker, I’m just not an expert in this area. It very easily could be by Jean Baptiste Beha or a contemporary of his. Measures about 18 1/2″ x 14″. It does have Old repairs to the top deer’s head which was reattached and about a 7″ x 3″ section at the bottom center looks to have broken off and been glued back in place, there is a visible chip missing from that damage as well. Looks like some loss to the top deer ears, winding arbor holes filled, some damage and soiling to numbers, one door looks replaced. There is also some general aging and expected wear. I have many more pictures of the markings, damage & repairs, and details as well. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition. Not shown in these pictures are holes added to the bottom to accommodate a Weight Driven chain movement and pendulum. Antique Black Forest cuckoo clock w/ wood plate 30 hour movement, circa 1860. Clock runs but will not cuckoo. Highly carved case has some issues but you would to if you were 160 years old. As seen in photos there are missing. To the leafs that decorate the case there is also split to the lower trellis as well and one of the bellows has a tear. Based on the serial number , I believe this was made in 1955. Most decals look nice. Missing an e in Coke on one side. Accepts a dime or two nickels. No cord, no key. Some dings, dents, scratching, scuffing, rust, missing pieces, etc. I spliced a plug on and the motor runs and blows cool air. Doesnt feel exceptionally cold but cool. Has been stored in the basement for twenty years. Otherwise was used inside a shop to sell Coke. It has just been inspected, adjusted, and tested by an expert Accutron technician. The case is a 10k gold filled fancy lugs bezel with a stainless steel back cover with the setting mechanism on the back. It has all new correct Accutron white dot crystal, white luminous hands, dial spacer, case seal gasket, and Energizer 387s 1.5 volt battery. It wears a well matched genuine leather strap that will comfortably fit up to a 7 1/2 inch wrist. The humming smooth sweeping electronic tuning fork 214 movement is running steadily and dependably. Replacement marked ST brass works, cable pendulum and weight and key Face is original with paint loss noted (see image 3). Excellent original case with No veneer lifting on lower molding pieces. Original glass with an old time clock shop decal from San Francisco. Clock weighs just under 23 lbs complete.
