Huge lot of antique American pocket watches. 18 watches in total. 17 of them are 18 size. 15 are open face and 3 are hunting case models. All are running and only 1 has an issue (broken mainspring). All started ticking literally after one turn of the crown or key and have been running and keeping good time for a few hours. Long terms accuracy and reliability have not been assessed. The collection comes in a briefcase type carrying/storage case with two layers of fitted foam inserts. Only one foam insert is shown in photo, which is appropriate for 18 size watches. The second foam insert (not shown) is more appropriate for 16 and 12 size watches (the cutouts are smaller). The briefcase has looks but I do not have the key. There is one antique 6 spoke universal winding key included, which is in rather poor shape but I was able to use it to wind and set all of the keywind watches. I have not polished or even wiped off any of these watches. All of them have glass crystals and the open face ones have the thick crystal with beveled edge. I will describe each watch briefly starting with the 15 OPEN FACE WATCHES that are inserted in the fitted foam in the photos with the one in the upper left being no. 1, and the one in the lower right being no. 16, 17, and 18 are the three HUNTER CASE WATCHES that are on top of the foam toward the middle of the first photo. Watch Co, Waltham, Mass, runs and keeps times but this is the one with the broken mainspring. You can feel it slip after a couple winds of the key, but if I just do two turns it will run and keep time for a few hours. I believe it dates to around 1870 give or take a few years. Birtwistle, Decimal, 2217000, dial marked P. I think it’s a 0 size, gold filled case, monogram on front. Stem wind, pendant set. 18 – Elgin, 18 size gold filled hunter case, dial marked Elgin Nat’l Watch Co, 1411820, stem wind, pendant set, Fahy’s Monarch No. 1 case, dates to 1884.
