Breathtaking Rare Antique German Black Forest Bahnhausle Railroad Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally large number of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an absolutely breathtaking antique cuckoo clock that was produced about 120 years ago in the Black Forest of Germany. It is referred to as a Bahnhausle (Train House) clock or Railroad clock since it was the German railroads who initially commissioned their local manufacturers to create a common design for use in their railroad stations around the 1890’s. The clock was so popular that a few were made for households around the world. This clock is one of the finest I’ve ever seen and it still works quite well here. It is an impressive size too measuring about 20 1/2″ high (from the tip of the leaves on the upper frame to the bottom of the finial on the bottom and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6″ or so at its deepest point, and about 14 1/2 across the top. The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood that is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. It has a beautiful mahogany finish and features gorgeous inlays all over the front. There is a large, fancy fret work hanging from the roof eaves on either side of the case, fancy round finials on the lower frame, and two fancy wooden finials as well. The case is adorned with some of the fanciest carvings I’ve seen in ages and fifteen deeply carved wooden grape leaves and clusters of grapes near the bottom. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy hands to point out the time. The numbers are the old style and nailed on to the dial, not glued on. The top is a separate carving and is not held in place; it’s just sitting there. You may wish to attach it more permanently… That’s up to you. There is a hinged wooden door on either side of the case. These are secured with a metal latch and open easily to allow access to the clock movement should any adjustments ever become necessary from this angle. The clock has a fitted wood back and is secured with a metal latch. I believe the back is a replacement door and there is a mostly intact label on it that has an “American Cuckoo Clock” name on it along with operating instructions. The door easily removes to allow access to an early style of a weight driven movement. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The tall wooden bellow whistle tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird with flapping wings opens the small fancy wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the case and when the cuckoo activity is finished, the bird retreats back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, cuckoos as it should, and keeps good time too. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we do not know the service history though the movement does show signs of having been maintained over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its new home. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve this classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a large carved grape leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and didn’t see any damage or missing parts. I think the upper frame may be a replacement but if it is, it is a good one. This clock is one of the finest examples of Black Forest craftsmanship I have seen in a very long time. It doesn’t matter where you display it in your home or office, it will get noticed for its uniqueness, high quality, and just Wow! You won’t find another quite like it! If you like this item and I’m sure you do, then I know you’ll love the other items. Check back frequently since we’re listing a lot of antique/vintage items as time allows! We’d be glad to send more pictures if available; just ask! My wife and I have been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectors items over the years. Vintage old wood antique tube radio Philco mdl 38-12 Just Restored
Just completed the restoration of this beautiful highly collectable 1938 Philco tube radio. This the Philco model 38-12. It is a “put anywhere” size of 11.5″ long x 8″ tall x 6.5 deep. The radio’s cabinet is refinished and has wonderful wood grains, and colors. The radio has rounded corners, and a very nice top. The two original knobs have been cleaned, polished, and resealed. The dial face and pointer are very nice and the pointer works as required. The brass dial bezel has been cleaned, polished, and resealed. There is a new Dial Lamp, new AC Power Cord, new speaker grill cloth, and new Audio/Filter Capacitors. Chassis cleaned, all tubes tested, and the remainder of the components tested/adjusted and replaced if needed. Speaker provides excellent projection, tones, and clarity. This little radio has an Antenna pigtail at the rear of the radio which will required a few feet of wire to be attached for proper reception and performance. Reception and performance will depend on your location, antenna length, and signal strength. Excellent player here with no issues. This radio would look wonderful in you office or home on display. Thank you for looking and please take a look at my other listed radio’s. The item “Vintage old wood antique tube radio Philco mdl 38-12 Just Restored” is in sale since Sunday, January 27, 2019. This is a late 1930’s 7 tube antique tube radio and it is absolutely gorgeous. This radio is obviously a rare model due to the fact that I can not find anything about. I have many resources that I use when ever the radio has no identification for the brand or model. The chassis have the “256” stamped on the back and the radio reminds me of an Air Castle/Silvertone line. This gorgeous radio is 16.5″ long x 9″ tall x 7.25 deep. The cabinet is in beautiful condition which I just refinished. The radio displays its nice dark colors and has plenty of beautiful wood grains throughout. The big framed in 6 dial face is in excellent condition and the sliding station indicator pointer works as it should. The dial Bezel has been polished and resealed. The 4 knobs are made of wood and look great/function as required. The rear is a “Tone” knob and the front from left to right is the On/Off Vol, Band Selector, and the Tuning knob. Just below the dial is the metal name plate “General”. There are rounded corners and a big wrap around speaker grill. There is a new dial cover, new speaker grill cloth, new dial lamps (2), new AC Power cord, and new Filter/Audio capacitors installed. The 7 tubes have been tested and the remaining components were checked & replaced if needed. This is a wonderful example of the American Radio Industry waiting for you to display in your favorite place in the home or office. The radio plays and receives stations very well. There are no issues. The speaker is in excellent condition and has very good volume, tone, and clarity. There is an Antenna Pigtail on the back of the radio that will require some extra wire be attached for proper reception and overall performance. Performance will vary depending on your signal strength and location. This was not a cheap radio back in its day. Not many of these around. Thank you very much for stopping in! Please look at my other nice radio’s listed. The item “Vintage old wood antique tube radio the General Beautiful piece here” is in sale since Sunday, January 27, 2019.
