The necklace is gold-filed and is not permanently attached to the wax seal. Scratches, patina and wear throughout consistent with age and use but overall displays nicely. RARE! BIG! Antique 19th C Solid Mahogany Traveling Lap Desk Writing Box With Key

For sale is a RARE! Antique 19th C Solid Mahogany Traveling Lap Desk box with green felt Writing Slope. It is amazingly complete with all its inner compartment lids and comes with The original skeleton Key. There are a little ink stain in the paper storage compartment but nothing serious. It had all the brass corners and center decorative piece. However there are some dents and vents to the bottom corners, with some old repairs. The top surface has beautiful mahogany wood grain, by checking under the writing surface, I confirm that the surface is not veneer but solid mahogany, which would indicate this writing box is a high class piece at the time it was made. There are two old crack repairs done to the top of the box. It is no longer cracked but you can see the seam. There are five small compartments that suppose to store pens, ink bottles, etc. All the lids are there. There are some nicks on three of the lids tiny handles commensurate with age. The green felt writing slope is so clean! Is it ever used? The compartment under the writing surface has a hole. I think that is because many of these writing desk has hidden compartments. One of the owners I history probably wonder whether there are some treasures hidden underneath. The side of the box also has a brass handled side drawer, which is dovetailed in construction. The bottom board of the box looks really old, also has old nails in it. There is an original key. But it does not seem to function properly. I cannot get it to turn. Maybe it is broken, but maybe it just needs some oil and messing around. Since it closes properly without the key, I dont want to try too hard. It measures 20 by 11 at the top and 7 tall. I love this box. I would not let it go if you are not willing to pay for its full value. The item “RARE! BIG!
