This is a very nice original unmolested piece, minimal losses to the full relief stag to the left of the dial, one ear missing and a small portion of one of his antlers, thats it. The rest of the clock is complete and in great shape, I really like this carving, very soft and feminine appeal to the carvings, they flow really well with all the soft rounded edges on the leaves as opposed to sharp leaf edges, a romantic motif with both live stags as opposed to fresh hunting kills that are usually seen. I suspect original wood antlers that are very well carved and very realistic looking. Beautifully carved stag head up top with gold toned glass eyes, super nice clock in great shape. Original matching weights, original proper fit chains and the quail and cuckoo birds are also very nice, it also retains its original carved bone hands as well. This clock is a nice large size as well, 25 top to bottom, 16 wide across the crown pediment, definitely cant miss this one on a wall. Lastly, the movement and bellows, movement is in terrific condition and functioning flawlessly, minimal pivot wear, a strong impulse beat on the time train, great shape. For those unaware, this is a quarter hour striking clock as opposed to your standard half hour cuckoo only striking clock, the quail in the left door calls the quarters and the cuckoo in the door on the right calls out the hours for the hours, 3 calls for 3 oclock, 4 for 4 and so on. The bellows sound off and function as they should but, in my opinion, could use some nice leather re covering to doll them up, the pipes and tops are also original to the clock. This one would be a great addition to anyones collection.
