Overall condition is Good+. Rosewood tote and knob are in great condition with no cracks and a wonderful original finish. Plane body is well patinad but is mostly free of rust. I have done minimal cleaning to this tool since, being what appears to be all original components, it should not be over cleaned. I have made photos of all the relevant TM’s and frog bed so you can see it meets all the criteria of a Type 2 as outlined in “Stanley Tools” by John Walter. There are no cracks at the mouth, which is nearly perfect, and no visible cracks anywhere else. This plane, in this original condition, would make a wonderful addition to a complete Stanley plane collection. It’s 150 years old!!!! And if sharpened would still work fine. Japanese Timber Framing Chiseltsuki Nomi48(Antique Woodworking Slick)

This listing is for an antique ootsuki nomi (Japanese slick chisel) with a 48mm wide cutting edge. Blacksmith signature is present and legible. I sharpened this tool on a 100 micron stone. The back and bevel are flat and sharp. Could use additional honing on high grit stones if an intense level a sharpness is desired. Blade is white steel (shirogami), Lamination line is nicely shaped. (note how the laminated steel wraps up the sides for structural stability and durability). Steel is extremely hard due to age hardening austenite turns to martensite over time. So you’ll find a very dependable glass hard edge on this old chisel. Id estimate it to be around 60 years old. Scuffs, blemishes, and patina are present. There is no rust on any portion that it would effect the performance of this tool. Back hollow is in great condition. Very symmetrical with most of the black oxide is still intact! There is some minor pitting in the hollow, but this is only cosmetic and wont affect the tool’s performance. Comes oiled and protected with camellia oil all natural corrosion inhibiting oil made from green tea plant. Handle is in excellent shape. No cracks or splits. Please ask any questions you may have. Set of 19Antique Japanese Woodworking Tools & Carving GougesChisels Hand Plane

Well rounded set of 19 Japanese carving tools, gouges, and chisels. I acquired these from an old wood sculptor in Japan. All tools are blacksmith forged and laminated. Backs and bevels have been flattened and sharpened on a 100 micron stone. No dents or chips to cutting edges. Very tough age hardened steel on these old chisels. (over time forge laminated steel will harden as the austenite converts to martensite). Steel molecules become very interlocked and durable. All tools have nice even high carbon steel lamination lines. Due to the age of these tools, there is some surface corrosion and minor rust pitting. This however is entirely aesthetic, since it does not occur on or near the cutting edges and will thus not impact their performance. Handles are made from an assortment of white and red Japanese oak, as well as Japanese cypress (hinoki). Some are a deep and beautiful “true red oak” which is very difficult to obtain these days. AWESOME JAMES SWAN SET! Woodworking Chisels Cast Steel Antique Vintage Socket

From my personal collection, sadly. I truly love this set of chisels, but it is time to move on. These are a real treasure and I know that you will love and cherish them as I have. This is an absolutely EPIC set of early James Swan chisels! The markings on this set lead me to believe it is one of the earliest sets offered by the James Swan Company. The handles are not original. I made them out of applewood, which was the high end handle material offered by James Swan at the time. I made them to the original specifications, so they are exactly the handles that the set would have had new. They are individually hand fitted to the chisel sockets for a perfect, tight fit. The blades have some pitting. They have been flattened and sharpened with water stones and are absolutely Scary – Shaving – Sharp! I should note here that these chisels have a slight bow. This is not a defect! They were made that way so that fine paring work can be performed without the handle hitting the wood surface. I have restored many antique chisel sets by many old makers and they were all made this way. It is so very rare to find a set in the original box with the interior labeling. Even a search in the mighty GOOGLE engine will not reveal the existence of a finer set of James Swan Chisels. I can personally vouch to the quality of Mr. This is a set that will bring you joy every time you pick them up, and that you will be proud to pass down through the generations. STANLEY NO. 2 TYPE 4! B CASTINGS PLANE Vintage Antique Woodworking Hand Tool

This is an early Stanley number 2 wood plane. However, it may have a newer model frog. Because the type 4 wouldnt have had a lateral adjustment lever. Ive also read that the number 2s do not follow the type studies very well. Theres all kinds of inconsistencies. So this could be a type 5 or type 6 era plane. This sole has no markings cast into it. The frog has a B cast into it as does the lever cap. The lateral adjustment lever has one Patent date of February 24, 1888 and the Blade says patent April 19, 1892. There is a chip out of the corner of the lever cap, the knob is cracked and the tote has been repaired. The sole has two cracks. It looks to have been cracked a long time ago and is still holding together. It seems like it would still be usable. See pictures for further details. Feel free to ask any questions.
