Antique Vintage Stanley No. 2 Type 4 (1874-1884) Pre-Lateral Woodworking Plane

About 80-85 percent of japanning (japanning little thin in spots) with some light scratches, tiny pitting and tiny nicks on sides and bottom of sole. Iron (6-3/4″ long x 1-1/2″ wide) and chip breaker are in excellent condition, both have micro pitting, darkness and light scratches with BAILEYS PATENT DEC. 24,1867 stamped into chip breaker. A few light scratches, pitting and nicks in lever cap with a little pitting, tiny nicks (most on lever release) and darkness on back of cap. Frog as a little pitting, scratches and darkness, brass adjusting nut as patent dates stamped into it. No chips or cracks on beaded front knob or tote handle (tiny bit of roughness on bottom of tote and as a little space between bottom of tote and sole, photo #9), both have small nicks and scratches from normal wear. Plane as been very lightly cleaned, oiled and waxed, please see pictures. An unusual plane, it has a removable cast iron screw cap & the patent number 656 struck on the toe of the plane, plus also on the wood under the blade. Weight – 1.4kg. Antique Stanley #8 Type 2 ca. 1869-1872 Jointer Plane woodworking tools

Overall condition is Good+. Rosewood tote and knob are in great condition with no cracks and a wonderful original finish. Plane body is well patinad but is mostly free of rust. I have done minimal cleaning to this tool since, being what appears to be all original components, it should not be over cleaned. I have made photos of all the relevant TM’s and frog bed so you can see it meets all the criteria of a Type 2 as outlined in “Stanley Tools” by John Walter. There are no cracks at the mouth, which is nearly perfect, and no visible cracks anywhere else. This plane, in this original condition, would make a wonderful addition to a complete Stanley plane collection. It’s 150 years old!!!! And if sharpened would still work fine. Please let me know if you would like a more specific photo, I ran out of picture room. Antique STANLEY SWEETHEART SLANT LID TOOL BOX 20 Long Wood Plane Toolbox. Really nice vintage old Stanley tool box. Has the metal tag on the lid, I believe it originally had a paper/ painted label on the front. Handle, hinges, and little locking hooks on the sides are all in nice condition. The box itself is in pretty nice shape as well, although there are a few paint splatters on it as you can see in the pics. Only a few of theme though. The bottom boards are a little bit loose from being split. A great rare original Stanley Sweet Heart tool chest. Came from a local estate, comes as seen in photos.
