Jefferson Mystery Clock Beautifully Restored and Rebuilt- Best Price Yet
Jefferson Golden Hour Mystery Clock. Mid-Century Modern / Retro (1950s). Fully Restored to Accurate Running Condition and Excellent Appearance. Our Lowest Price Yet, Limited Inventory-Don’t Wait. This clock has been fully inspected, repaired, and restored to a nearly’new’ appearance and accurate operation in my small home-based, veteran-owned shop in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts. This is an authentic Jefferson Golden Hour Mystery clock. These clocks were manufactured starting in the 1950s through 1991. Most of the clocks we sell were manufactured at the peak of their popularity during the 1950s. If the date of manufacture is known, I will provide it with the clock. These clocks were manufactured by the Jefferson Electric Company of Bellwood, Illinois. The company was named in honor of U. President Thomas Jefferson who was a prolific inventor and scientist. These clocks are based on the original designs of Leendert Prins of the Netherlands that were patented in the 1940s. The clocks are named Mystery Clocks because of the clever engineering that makes the clock hands appear to float unsupported inside the chapter ring displaying the hours. The hands and a small gear drive are attached to a glass face-plate that is turned by the internal motor. There are a number of other clocks in the mystery clock family. There are the Golden Minute, Exciting Hour, Golden Helm as well as the Golden Hour, which was produced in large numbers. Other Jefferson clocks include, the Golden Secret and the Suspense mystery clock which utilize a different drive mechanism. A few others such as the Golden View clock are very rare and primarily seen in museum collections. Each Jefferson we offer for sale has been thoroughly inspected, repaired (or damage noted if not), and polished to carefully restore the timepiece to as close to new appearance as possible. Some of these clocks are over 60-years old and may have some minor imperfections to the exterior finish. Our restoration process minimizes the unsightly appearance of these imperfections as much as possible. Mechanically, these clocks have been restored to a factory-like condition and also contain some improvements that we have developed to address problem areas seen during our repairs. The “Golden” in the name of these clocks is from the actual electroplated 24-karat brushed-gold exterior finish. Some of the damage to the finish we see here is due to previous owners incorrectly believing the surface was brass and used brass cleaners to polish the clock. Brass cleaners contain abrasives that will rub the gold finish off and expose the nickel surface below it. We caution new owners to. Attempt to polish their clock with any type of metal cleaner to avoid damage to the gold surface. A light dusting or a wipe down with a very slightly dampened clean cloth is the only recommended cleaning for the gold plated finish. The glass face-plate is also treated to minimize fingerprints and should only be cleaned with a very lightly dampened cloth or paper towel as well. Owners are cautioned to. Attempt to lubricate these clocks. Their design precludes the need for any lubrication and the use of it will cause serious damage to the clock. Many clocks arriving here at our shop for repairs have been lubricated by well-meaning owners that has caused catastrophic damage to the device. Note: I can replace the standard 110 v AC motor with a 220v AC configuration for an additional charge. There are some adjustments that can be made by the owner that may avoid the need to return the clock to our shop. These clocks are a fascinating example of historic American horological engineering and artistry that makes them an excellent conversation piece in your home or office or perhaps as an unusual gift for that perfect occasion. Note: We can finish the color of the lines on the hands, numbers, and pips in either black or white. There are some photos provided with this listing that show a clock with the white painting on it. Diameter of the clock face is 7 1/2. Overall height is 9 1/2. The base unit is – 6″ wide x 4 1/2″ deep x 2 high. Has always been our goal and we are committed to ensuring this standard is continued. We also provide complete repair services for the Golden Hour and Exciting Hour clock and limited service to the Golden Minute and Golden Helm clocks. Service is limited due to the availability of parts for these less common clocks. Service packages for existing Jefferson clock owners are available on a separate listing. 1915 Victor Victrola VV-XVIII Antique Phonograph (Rare) Professionally Restored
This Victrola phonograph has been professionally restored from top to bottom, nothing has been overlooked. Everything is original to the unit. The Victrola XVIII is rare with only around 2,000 made for around a year and one restored to this condition is extremely rare. One of Victor’s best upright, inside-horn machines. Bears Serial #1098, with a nickel-plated, 3-spring motor. The cabinet, 23″ wide x 25″ deep, has “swell” (bombe) sides and front, Louis XV style moldings, and gold-plated hardware throughout. Features a 12 turntable, Exhibition reproducer, and storage for record albums in front and rear access doors. Both the record and phonograph sections have matching locks and key. The casters provide easy roll about. Beautiful book matched Ribbon Stripe Mahogany. Here is some info about the XVIII from the Victor Victrola Website. The XVIII was the most elegant non-custom phonograph that Victor made when it was introduced in the summer of 1915. This model had fancy hand carving, finely detailed veneer, and bowed front and side panels. Rare wood finishes were also available at extra cost. In 1915, the XVIII was the best standard catalog model available. Due to their relative rarity and beauty, these machines are prized by collectors today. An estimated total of 3,408 hand-wound Victrola XVIII’s were produced. Most documentation indicates that the XVIII models were made only in 1915 and 1916; however some records show that XVIII’s may have been available by special order up until 1922. 3 Month Restoration included. Cabinet carefully stripped completely down to reveal the original beautiful Ribbon Sapele mahogany wood, loose veneer repaired, fully sanded with special attention to carvings, corners and trim, stained using special wood dye to match color under lid. Added 3-4 layers of clear coat paying special attention to matching the original gloss depth to restore the finish to same condition as when it was new in 1915. The 3 spring motor was completely disassembled, chassis cleaned and polished and all springs, gears and other nickel plated & brass parts cleaned, inspected & re-assembled with modern synthetic lubrication for extra long protection and smooth operation. Tone arm and mount were removed, cleaned, mount repainted & gold stripe replaced, bearings replaced, lubricated and fully serviced. Tone arm fully cleaned, polished and new lubrication at pivot. Reproducer was fully cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets, Mica & calibration. Platter was cleaned, polished and new felt applied. Castors & sleeves were replaced with duplicates since originals were not repairable. All knobs, screw heads, hinges & other parts were cleaned & polished before re-assembly. Final calibration was done using a 78 rpm strobe disc. This elegant and fully restored antique phonograph is rare, beautiful and would make a great addition to any home and would be a cherished family heirloom to pass down for generations. I have a good reputation in the industry as a leading restorer who does quality work so please contact me if you are interested or make any reasonable offer. Apart from the great looks, she packs an amazing strength for her size, which is more than obvious when sewing thick or hard materials. What’s the difference? We know vast majority of people dont really differentiate the two terms nowadays but there is actually a huge difference between them. The difference between restore and refurbish is that restore is to reestablish, or bring back into existence while refurbish is to rebuild or replenish with all new material. Restore English, Verb To reestablish, or bring back into existence. T o restore to original (or better) working order and appearance. To bring back to a previous condition or state. To give or bring back (that which has been lost or taken). Related terms: restoration restorer. English, Verb To rebuild or replenish with all new material. To rebuild or replenish with all new material. Since many people still keep asking questions about whether those items we list are repainted, with new stickers etc, we feel the need to clarify things. All items we list as restored are almost 100% originals , nothing new put on them other than oil & grease, rubber o-rings (tires), rubber / felt feet, and motor / treadle belts, depending on the model. If a part is missing or damaged and we can’t repair it, we’ll replace it with one from a donor machine of the same era. Never a newer or a new one. Those items are certainly repainted as many think, nor have we put new stickers / decals which would then label them as renovated or “refurbished”. Everything was set in the factory back then. Motor sets may have a new plug and leads but coils and internals would be vintage and serviced. Lamps will be new. Always have in mind the time to restore an item, is many times the time needed to refurbish a same one. And although it is much, much more time consuming, we prefer this approach which preserves the authenticity and history of an item rather than just making it eye appealing but strip it from it’s history and identity. Growing up in Athens, Greece watching the archeologists, since we were kids, painstakingly removing layer after layer of debris and foreign matter from the. A matching Original SINGER base with Carrying Case can be provided upon request at an extra cost : An extremely well preserved SINGER 201 mk2 which has been: -Thoroughly Cleaned & Polished -De-Greased from old Greases -Freshly Greased & Oiled -Adjust & Fine tune Tensioners, Feed Dogs, Needle Bar etc -Stitch Length Adjusted to SINGER Specifications both Forward and Reverse at 6 to 30 stitches per inch. Rotary Hook Cleaned & Adjusted -Bobbin Winder Assembly tuned & rubber ring / tire replaced with Original SINGER All maintenance & restoration done by 3FTERS Athens always adhering to their strict restoration program guidelines! The results are more than obvious in the photos of this listing. Serial number: EM974980 indicates that was manufactured in 1958 The Mk2 indicates that she belongs to the 2nd 201 chassis family, built in cast light alloy body. And the “k” indicates that she was m ade in Kilbowie, Clydebank, UK. Apart from the great looks, she packs an amazing strength, which is more than obvious when sewing thick or hard materials. The quality of stitch, for which she’s so well known, is second to none! Actually at 8kg of weight, she is the lightest sewing machine ever made to stitch high quality stitch. Operates quietly and smoothly, thanks to the Horizontal Rotary Hook (the standard choice for industrial sewing machines), and the high level of craftsmanship in manufacturing process. Actually the only thing you can hear when in operation, (apart from that of the motor) is the sound of the thread, sliding on the tension spring and that of the needle penetrating the fabric!!! The precision mechanics incorporated in this model, together with the high level of “forgiveness” in her settings, are beyond anything produced in the last 80 years that i’ve came up across. And i have come across quite a lot of them. Capable of sewing from lightweight fabrics, up to leather, canvas, sail cloth or multiple layers of denim, provided the correct needles and thread are used. Features: forward, reverse & dropped feed dogs which makes her capable of free machine embroidery/darning. This is the creme de la creme of vintage sewing machines and the best machine that Singer ever produced. Often referred as the Rolls Royce of Sewing Machines she is o verbuild to outlast generations upon generations! Capable of 1,100 stitches /min was a workhorse in her time and although she had a quite pricey tag, people had the opportunity to have a great, reliable, high quality sewing machine at their home, putting her in production and break even in a timely manner. This was not a tool for “times needed” or decoration purposes, this was a real semi-industrial sewing machine in which people back then, relied on her capabilities for their income. The Final Singer 201 was a BROWN/BEIGE mk2 , and by 1963 it was no more. The finest sewing machine the world had ever seen, became just too expensive to manufacture. Cheaper, uglier, noisy plastic machines which when operating, you think by the noise they are doing that they are grinding their internal parts, took the place of these engineering marvels, only to be overcome (finally) by these Black Beauties by the shear persistence of their heavy duty, long lasting quality and user friendliness they pack. She will be lovingly packed and delivered to her new owner by post/courier, or can be collected for free. Happy to provide additional photos, video or answer any questions. What’s the difference? We know vast majority of people dont really differentiate the two terms nowadays but there is actually a huge difference between them. Happy to provide additional photos, video or answer any questions. What’s the difference? We know vast majority of people dont really differentiate the two terms nowadays but there is actually a huge difference between them. The difference between restore and refurbish is that restore is to reestablish, or bring back into existence while refurbish is to rebuild or replenish with all new material. Restore English, Verb To reestablish, or bring back into existence. To restore to original (or better) working order and appearance. To bring back to a previous condition or state. To give or bring back (that which has been lost or taken). Related terms: restoration restorer. English, Verb To rebuild or replenish with all new material. To rebuild or replenish with all new material Source: wikidiff. Growing up in Athens, Greece watching the archeologists, since we were kids, painstakingly removing layer after layer of debris and foreign matter from the ancient finds in open dig sites the size of football fields using nothing more than small brushes the size of a toothbrush and small hand tools along with tons and tons of patience and sunscreen may have contributed in our later days attitude towards items of historic significance ;- Or at least we like to think so :. Coin operated devices become popular in the late ninetieth century and this application was soon adapted to fans. Both General Electric and Westinghouse. Made coin operated fans for consumer use. The fan would give the consumer an hour of use for each nickel deposited. The more nickels deposited, the longer the fan would operate. This was ideal for hotels in warmer climates. A small handle has been attached to the motor for greater mobility. This example is for alternating current. The base is made of cast iron and is very heavy. There is a slot located at the. Top of the base to deposit a coin. The large fluted knob on the back of the base has instructions on how to operate the fan. The hole at the base of the fan is the bank which holds the nickels. The motor is a 1914 collar oscillator design, but this fan does not oscillate. Dimensions of this fan are 18from base to top of cage. The total width of the cage is 131/4. Total depth from front of badge to back of badge is 8 1/2. As you can see, a lot of work and hours has gone into this fan to make it function properly. This is not a cheap restoration. I have been restoring antiques over 25 years and take a lot of pride in my work and pay attention to every detail. I can honestly say Im proud to bring this fan back to life and if youre not happy, Im not happy. Need not say more. The pictures speak for themselves.
