Very old Thorens 3 Tune music box with a shield shaped inlay on the top. It was well preserved with an outstanding original finish. Only the very lightest signs of wear, you really have to look for. It winds up and shifts to play all three tunes. It runs almost silent, a sign of good quality. Check out the photos for condition. It measures approximately 6 11/16″ X 3 15/16″. The Original Instructions are Inside, with a 1887 pat. It Has A Beautiful Walnut Wood Case with Original Victorian Stencil Lettering and Designs. 18″ Wide x 12″ Tall x 15 Deep, and is In Good Original Condition!!! This is in Working Condition. Offered for sale is an antique singing bird box crafted in the late 1800s/very early 1900s. This was crafted by OMM/Raymy of Geneva Switzerland and bears their rather peculiar rear mounted governor fan movement. The bird song is slightly different than most so that is a nice bonus. The bird animates and sings perfectly and the case is very nice. This is a rather modestly priced antique singing bird box and is 100% genuine so if you have always wanted a true antique singing bird box at a modest price, this example is perfect. I fully serviced (cleaned, adjusted, lubricated) the mechanical movement so this singing bird box operates perfectly. Buyers should be cautious when purchasing an antique singing bird box – always insist on seeing a photo of the mechanical movement for any singing bird box described as “antique”. This significantly impacts both current value and future value appreciation. The bird animates perfectly as follows: wings flap up/down, beak opens/closes, tail flutters up/down all the while singing to a beautiful oscillating bird song that is synchronized to the bird animation. All cylinders will work beautifully. This captivating and exceptionally engineered Swiss interchangeable cylinder music box by Geo Baker Company, Geneva Switzerland is accompanied by its original table. The mechanism is set in a beautiful case of burled and Ebony walnut with satinwood, mother-of-pearl inlays adorning the lid. The entire box rests upon its original matching table supported by handsome turned legs. This music box serves not only as melodious entertainment but also as a fine example beautiful furniture from it’s time. Cylinders are stored within the table drawer and are capable of playing a variety of tunes with crisp, beautiful sound. Music boxes were at the height of fashion in the late 19th century serving as a status symbol for European gentry. Switzerland was the birthplace of cylindrical music boxes and home to the most renowned manufacturers. Large boxes with many cylinders such as this one had the best orchestral sounds, making them the most desirable of their time.
