WWII Shin Gunto Katana Japanese Army Officer's Samurai Sword Antique Seki 1935
Made by a sword smith named Kiyomiya Noguchi (signed) who was a sword smith working in Seki. Kiyomiya Noguchi (real name: Toru Noguchi) worked in Seki around 1935. It is in excellent condition with all it’s original fittings. The blade is excellently polished displaying its beautiful hamon and seems to have been sharpened rarely if ever which can be seen in its well shaped kissaki, as well as having been constantly oiled for its entire life. There are only a couple of tiny surface level rust spots which I have done my best to photograph. The tsuka wrapping is not stained/rotten/frayed. The Saya is not cracked. The details on the tsuba are sharp. And all the fittings, including the leather seppa which are in good condition for their age are present. Overall this is an excellent example of a sword from this period and is well worth adding to a collection weather you are a fan of katana in general or of WWII memorabilia. It ships from my smoke free home. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for looking and good luck! Nakayama Yoshimichi, was the adopted son of Nakayama Ikkansai Yoshihiro. Ikkansai Yoshihiro learned forging techniques at the Norishige school from the 4th generation Noritoshi in Mito. In his quest to emulate the Norishige style’s Matsukawa-hada, he became very famous for making “hadamono”, blades which put very heavy focus on the hada. Many of his works and Yoshimichi’s works are thus made in the Norishige style featuring o-midare Hamon and blades which had very detailed ji-hada. From looking at the Koshirae, this sword can be suspected to have been used by someone from the Kobusho, a Bujutsu dojo that was established by the Tokugawa Bakufu to train Tokugawa retainers and their sons in 1856.
