Antique Reading Standard Wood Wheel Motorbike made by Great Western Mfg. Antique Reading Standard Wood Wheel Bicycle made by Great Western Manufacturing Company of La Porte, Indiana around 1917. Great Western Manufacturing also made Crown Bicycles. This Reading Standard is a Nice Quality Antique bike showing Craftsmanship superior to later mass production bicycles. The bike has Great Patina with aged over paint, traces of original paint, and effects of the elements. The Bike is a 28″ x 1 1/2″ Wood wheel Roadster Bike with Tubular Tires. Nice White Wall Tubular that hold Shape but not air. (A Lux Low Tire treatment) The Bike is an Interesting Old Bicycle, Restored as Found with Patina intact. The Wood Rims have been refinished, restored, and re laced with original spokes to original hubs. The rear hub is a New Departure Model A Coaster Brake, and the Front is oddly an Iver Johnson front hub. The Chain is an early Skip tooth chain. Bike has Early Crank & Sprocket, Bottom Bracket, Head set, Stem, and wood block Pedals. I could find no literature on Reading Standard so the Bike is restored as found, except for the seat that was added and is period correct. The Wood Wheels and Original Patina is Beautiful and although completely rebuilt, I would say she is more of a show piece than 100 year old Rider. She is a Beautiful Old Reading Standard Bicycle that would Adorn any Collection.
