An antique Putnam “Lightning” Fruit or Canning Jar with glass lid and wire closure, American, ca. Crude, blown Quart in attractive shade of very pale Yellowish Amber; factory ground lip. Embossed: TRADE MARK / LIGHTNING on body. Base is embossed: PUTNAM / 42. Retains correct “3-date” glass Lid. Color Note: The glass color depicted in the photos is accurate. I would call this either a pale Honey Amber or strong Yellow Amber. The lid is one shade darker than the jar, as shown. The factory ground lip has a shallow flake (close-up, photo #12) and typical roughness. There are many tiny seed bubbles, as shown; no cracks, no open bursts. An antique Putnam “Lightning” Fruit or Canning Jar with glass lid and wire closure, American, ca. Crude, blown Quart in attractive shade of Pale Yellow Amber; factory ground lip. Embossed: TRADE MARK / LIGHTNING on body. Base is embossed: PUTNAM / 58. Retains correct “3-date” glass Lid. Color Note: The glass color depicted in the photos is accurate. I would call this either a Honey Amber or Yellow Amber. Typical roughness on the ground lip noted for descriptive accuracy. There are a few air inclusions, as shown; no open bursts. Fine color and whittled character throughout. Beware of the numerous reproductions out there; this jar guaranteed old and authentic! Displays brilliantly in a sunlit sill or window shelf; this jar really glows in certain light! Highly-appropriate for any collection. See photos for complete details and close-ups. OFFER EARLY – With so many watchers, dont miss out. Strong offers are often accepted without a counter. Quart Amber Beaver Jar Ca. 1900 – This jar has become a bit of a Canadian icon. Beaver jars were originally manufactured at Ontario Glass Company in Kingsville, Ontario (where his jar is currently located). In fact, a friend dug around at the original site about 40 years ago and found shards of amber beaver jars which would be strong evidence that these jars were indeed produced in Kingsville, Ontario. There is a very small chip to the outside of the lip (pictured) which does not go through the lip. There is also a small piece of glass fused to the inside of the jar which is the darker dot on the backside of the jar (closeup pictured as well). Measures 7 1/4 tall with lid.
