This Jar is complete with original wire closure and correct, color-matched 3-Date Lid. Blown in an attractive shade of Pale Yellow with Amber tones and marked PUTNAM 342 on base. The photos are probably the best description. Condition : Very Good to Excellent condition with strong embossing and tremendous character. Minor imperfections are noted below. Typical roughness and shallow flakes on the factory-ground lip and light oxidation on the metal closure, as shown. Air inclusions throughout noted for descriptive accuracy; no open bursts. Embossed: TRADE MARK / LIGHTNING on body. Base is embossed: PUTNAM / 42. Retains correct “3-date” glass Lid. Color Note: The glass color depicted in the photos is accurate. I would call this either a pale Honey Amber or strong Yellow Amber. The lid is one shade darker than the jar, as shown. The factory ground lip has a shallow flake (close-up, photo #12) and typical roughness. There are many tiny seed bubbles, as shown; no cracks, no open bursts. Fine color and whittled character throughout. Beware of the numerous reproductions out there; this jar guaranteed old and authentic! An antique Putnam “Lightning” Fruit or Canning Jar with glass lid and wire closure, American, ca. Crude, blown Quart in attractive shade of Pale Olive Amber; factory ground lip. Embossed: TRADE MARK / LIGHTNING on body. Base is embossed: PUTNAM / 83. Retains correct “3-date” glass Lid. Color Note : The glass color depicted in the photos is accurate. I would classify this Jar as pale Yellow/Amber with strong Olive tones. The lid is quite special with shades of pale Green Apple and Olive (see close-ups).
