Super Rare Antique 19th Century Victorian 1884 Embroidery School Tote Purse Bag. Absolutely a crazy find! We found this in a lot of original samples from embroidery school. This is a purse/tote made out of a potato/rice/some sort of sack. One side has “‘1884″ stitched with a frame around it. The red trom 1884 nas bleed around the stitches. Other side has initials on the back, i can read possibly S/D. Pretty torn and beat up, which is expected for the age, what you see is what you get.

Offering this antique embroidery sampler, a type of needlework historically created by young girls to demonstrate their stitching skills. It looks to be A “Pennsylvania German” or Folk Art Sampler: It features classic motifs like symmetrical birds (often called “distelfinks” in Pennsylvania Dutch tradition) perched on a flower basket. A Punch Paper Embroidery: The base material looks like “perforated paper” or “punch paper, ” a popular medium for such projects in the late 19th century. Dated and Initialed: The top row typically includes the stitcher’s initials and a date. The date on this piece is 1880. To get a more basic understanding of Samplers. Traditional samplers often included several common elements. Motifs: Whimsical designs like flower baskets, birds, and sometimes buildings or people. Personalization: Most pieces are marked with initials and the year they were completed. Educational Purpose: They served as a record of different stitches and patterns a student had mastered. This sampler looks to probably be in its original frame with its old early nails and paper backing. A wonderful example out of a private collection. Rare, dramatic & beautiful. Showpiece antique Madeira hand embroidered linen tablecloth. Dense with cutwork, with loads of padded satin stitch flowers, shading in meshwork and seed stitch, and scalloped edges with fleur-de-lys accents. Excellent condition, gently used. Hand laundered, clean and bright, with no stains or discolorations. We note only a few detached connectors, and some small frays at the edges. Minor, this tablecloth looks marvelous.
