C 1800 Mitchell & Mott New York Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Grandfather Clock
Mitchell & Mott New York Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock C. Mitchell & Mott Federal Mahogany Tall Case Clock. Henry Mitchell was in partnership with Jordan Mott at work in New York City at 27 Pearl Street Circa 1790 – 1809. This magnificent example stands 98 1/2″ Tall, 21 1/4″ wide and 10 1/2 deep. Early period tall case clocks from New York City are extremely rare and hard to find, so this represents an opportunity to acquire an original signed example. The “High Style” inlaid mahogany case has wonderful wood selection, contrasting satinwood string inlay, inlaid rosettes, and geometric inlaid capitals. Turned mahogany quarter columns flank the waist section of the case. The shaped waist door has a shaped arched top and wonderful oval inlay. The door lock is original, functions and comes with a key. The glass in the bonnet is original. The clock descended in the Hageman family of Montclair NJ and other than the appropriate bench made restored bracket feet, it is completely original. When we acquired the clock there was chipping in the dial at the dial posts and the posts were attached with screws. We had the dial touched up at the 4 dial posts and reset the dial feet. The movement is complete and in an excellent state of preservation. There are no replacements or solder repairs to the works. The clock runs and strikes just fine. The case has a delightful warm patina and the stepped molded base terminates on ogee bracket feet. The eight day works are typical of what you find in this area and are coupled to an early painted iron dial of English origin which is characteristic of the early clocks made in New York. Some excellent quality bracket clocks please keep your eyes open over the next few months. Beautiful arched top designed case with stunning patina and colour to the wonderful walnut. Brass fretwork side panels with red silk behind them. The case is made of walnut which gives this absolutely amazing display finish and makes it stand out. The clock has a simple case design but is still very impressive to look at on display. Working locks and keys to glazed front door and to the back door which has a matching brass fret panel. Case is in excellent original condition for age and looks stunning on display with good patina. Silvered arched dial with engraved decoration to the corners. Roman numerals & original hands. To the arch their are 2 subsiduary dials, one is for fine regulation adjustment and the other is for the choice of silent/chime. Dial is in excellent original condition and looks fantastic. English 8 day triple fusee chain driven musical chime 8/4 bell 1/4 chiming movement. 1/4 Chiming 8 bell musical chime every quarter of an hour with hourly gong strike on the hour after the musical chimes has finished. Chain driven triple fusee with silent/chime feature to silence chimes. Original Pendulum and a new brass winding key. Extremely high quality has can be expected. Movement is in full working order keeping good time and chiming the 1/4s as it should on 8 bells. Victorian, mid – 19th century. The clock has beautiful proportions and measures 19.5 inches high x 14.5 inches wide x 9 inches deep. This is a perfect investment clock and a beautiful display piece. Looks absolutely fantastic wherever it is displayed and a true talking point of any room. Exceptional clock which will only grow in value and one of the best ones i have ever had the pleasure to offer for sale and you wont find one quite like this for a while. Fantastic quality triple spire top cathedral designed regency case with stunning patina and colour to the wonderful solid oak. Glazed side panels both in excellent condition. The case is made of oak which gives this absolutely stunning display finish and makes it stand out. The clock has various high quality carved decoration which is all in superb original condition. Working locks and using the same key to glazed front door and to the back door which has a brass fretwork panel to it. The clock comes with its original matching wall bracket which as you can see in the picture compliments the clock perfectly. Case is in excellent original condition for age and looks stunning on display with good patina. English 8 day triple fusee chain driven musical chime 8 bell 1/4 chiming movement. 1/4 Chiming 8 bell musical chime every quarter of an hour with hourly gong strike on the hour after the musical chimes has finished. Original Pendulum and a new brass winding key. Extremely high quality as can be expected. Movement is in full working order keeping good time and chiming the 1/4s as it should on 8 bells. The clock itself measures 32 inches high x 18.5 inches wide x 12 inches deep The clock when sitting on its wall bracket measures 43.5 inches high x 20.75 inches wide x 13.75 inches deep. This is a perfect investment clock and a beautiful display piece. Looks absolutely fantastic wherever it is displayed and a true talking point of any room.
