Culture: Eastern Roman (Byzantine). Date: Circa 5th-7th Century AD. Form: Openwork loop integrated with a stylized plate featuring geometric “Eye” motifs. Region: Eastern Mediterranean / Byzantine Empire. Identification: Military Plate with “Magic Eye” Protection This 45mm bronze buckle represents a significant piece of military equipment from the early Byzantine period. The Design : The buckle features a broad loop and a decorative plate characterized by distinctive “Magic Eye” (Ring-and-Dot) motifs. These were common apotropaic symbols intended to ward off the “Evil Eye” and protect the wearer in battle. The Reverse : The back retains its original, robust attachment lugs used to secure the buckle to a thick leather military belt. Surface Detail : The obverse displays deep punch-work forming these protective “eyes, ” a decorative technique frequent in the 6th and 7th centuries across the Empire’s frontier provinces. A gorgeous antique Art Nouveau era accessory set comprising a belt buckle and 6 buttons. Made of ormolu brass, they are enamelled with a very beautiful flowers and ladybirds pattern in guilloche enamel. The ble and bright enamels are really vivid, my pictures just don’t do the set justice, it is stunning in person. The buckle measures 3.5x6cm, the buttons are 1.4cm in diameter. The set comes in its original silk and velvet box. Condition: the hat pins are missing from the set; one button has a slight wear to the enamel on the side; generally the set is in excellent condition, the items appear to have never been used; please refer to the photos for detail. VINTAGE VERY RARE UNBRANDED BUT KEYSTON DESIGN COPPER/BRONZE TONED ANTIQUE OLDER STYLE CA. 1940’S AMERICAN COWBOY BELT BUCKLE FEATURING RANCH BRANDS, BUCKING BRONCO BUSTER, AND LONGHORN STEERS- This fantastic very old antique American cowboy belt buckle has developed a wonderful copper & bronze toned patina over the many decades since it was made. We cannot see any maker or material hallmarks on it, but the design and quality is exceptionally nice. A special thank you goes out to the helpful Ebayer who sent us a photo of this exact design that he owns in Sterling silver that was hallmarked by Keyston, San Francisco. So, this one is either an early unhallmarked Keyston or an exact copy of their Design.
