Nakayama Yoshimichi, was the adopted son of Nakayama Ikkansai Yoshihiro. Ikkansai Yoshihiro learned forging techniques at the Norishige school from the 4th generation Noritoshi in Mito. In his quest to emulate the Norishige style’s Matsukawa-hada, he became very famous for making “hadamono”, blades which put very heavy focus on the hada. Many of his works and Yoshimichi’s works are thus made in the Norishige style featuring o-midare Hamon and blades which had very detailed ji-hada. From looking at the Koshirae, this sword can be suspected to have been used by someone from the Kobusho, a Bujutsu dojo that was established by the Tokugawa Bakufu to train Tokugawa retainers and their sons in 1856.
