Publisher is unknown, but this image was likely pirated. The image is from around 1870, at the Regent’s Park zoo, and the card appears to be from the 1890s. This is a stereoview (also known as a stereograph or stereoscope card). It was one of the first forms of 3D photography. The images were captured with a special stereoscopic camera, which had two lenses – simulating the view of our left and right eyes. The two, nearly identical pictures were then mounted next to each other (most commonly on a piece of cardstock, glued on as photographs or printed as lithographs). The image could then be seen in three dimensions when viewed through a device known as a stereoscope, stereopticon, and/or televiewer. Standard-size stereograph, measuring about 3.5 x 7 inches. This Tomahawk has slightly curved forged head. The head is 5.75 inches. The wood haft length is 16.5 inches. Circa 1820, it is in really fine shape for its age. Good surface patina on all areas. This is Rare Style Antique Plains Native American Pipe Tomahawk. This particular style is known as the bat-wing for the shape of one the piercings that resemble the shape of a bat. These tomahawks were more obscure and especially made for high ranking chiefs, war chiefs and particularly notable leaders. The war club tomahawk features an exceptional hand-forged iron head with bat-wing cut-out and beaded drop. The forge seams are visible on both sides of the blade and the piece shows a truly fine high-quality craftsmanship. The head exhibits a fine rich deep patina evenly over the entire surface. The original haft is constructed from carved hard wood and brass tacks. The entire surface of the wood shows a nice deep patina. Haft Length – 24.5 in. Blade – 10.0 x 3.5 in. Old plains indian pipe tomahawk forged head bat wing & heart inlaid in blade

Authentic original mid 1800’s Plains Indian pipe tomahawk. This example has a highly sought after silver bat wing & heart inlaid into the blade. The iron head has a nice “in the metal” patina and shows good use and wear patterns. The head was forged and then the blade was cutout then inlaid in the traditional way, seen as pictured. Along the haft are many hot file brand marks and a single shoulder hole with nice original old square shank tacks. Just look at the beautiful wood grain on the haft, amazing! The mouthpiece is well worn and intact. There is a nice original clean out plug in the end of the haft. The head of the tomahawk is 12 and half inches long. The haft is 23 inches long. This tomahawk is heavy and well built, solid and strong. This is a fine example of a Native American weapon of war and peace pipe in one. If you have a question, please ask.
