Antique 1800’s handmade inlaid marquetry wood brass photo album with photographs

Up for sale is a very rare antique 19th century handmade wooden marquetry photo album. The back and front cover are carved out of wood and done in a very elaborate marquetry design depicting a lady farmer. It is very detailed and mounted to a leather binding along with brass hinged clasps on the opposite side. The interior has many pages holding an assortment of family photos and tintypes. It measures 6 3/8 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches thick. The leather binding has some ware and both back and front cover were reattached.

This antique Victorian era souvenir hand painted wooden cockade flirting mirror fan dates from 1900. It is made of wood with a hand painted inlaid bird, and souvenir on one side and a oval shape mirror on the other side. There is pleated paper with a green and red floral print rococo designs and lace trim edging. This unique cockade style souvenir fan opens into a complete circle around the pivot when the top string is pulled. The fan measures 9 inches long, complete length is 13 1/2. C 1800 Mitchell & Mott New York Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Grandfather Clock

Mitchell & Mott New York Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock C. Mitchell & Mott Federal Mahogany Tall Case Clock. Henry Mitchell was in partnership with Jordan Mott at work in New York City at 27 Pearl Street Circa 1790 – 1809. This magnificent example stands 98 1/2″ Tall, 21 1/4″ wide and 10 1/2 deep. Early period tall case clocks from New York City are extremely rare and hard to find, so this represents an opportunity to acquire an original signed example. The “High Style” inlaid mahogany case has wonderful wood selection, contrasting satinwood string inlay, inlaid rosettes, and geometric inlaid capitals. Turned mahogany quarter columns flank the waist section of the case. The shaped waist door has a shaped arched top and wonderful oval inlay. The door lock is original, functions and comes with a key. The glass in the bonnet is original. The clock descended in the Hageman family of Montclair NJ and other than the appropriate bench made restored bracket feet, it is completely original. When we acquired the clock there was chipping in the dial at the dial posts and the posts were attached with screws. We had the dial touched up at the 4 dial posts and reset the dial feet. The movement is complete and in an excellent state of preservation. There are no replacements or solder repairs to the works. The clock runs and strikes just fine. The case has a delightful warm patina and the stepped molded base terminates on ogee bracket feet. The eight day works are typical of what you find in this area and are coupled to an early painted iron dial of English origin which is characteristic of the early clocks made in New York. The very finest antique music boxes are here – look no further. Here is your chance to own a superb Swiss antique music box by Conchon, one of the finest makers of Swiss music boxes at the end of the nineteenth century, around 1880. External dimensions 25 x 12 x 12 inches 64 x 30.5 X 30.5 cms. Some regard music boxes by this maker to be of the same quality to those by other makers such as Nicole Freres, Lecoultre and Paillard. The musical movement starts and plays the eight popular airs in a sparkling manner ringing six tuned bells with decorative bird strikers. The bells are surmounted by enamelled bees and flowers and can be turned on or off if so desired. The musical arrangements are expressive and harp like in a very pleasing and mellow way. The musical steel comb is perfect and perfectly in tune as can be seen below. All tunes play equally well as in the video selection. Very old Thorens 3 Tune music box with a shield shaped inlay on the top. It was well preserved with an outstanding original finish. Only the very lightest signs of wear, you really have to look for. It winds up and shifts to play all three tunes. It runs almost silent, a sign of good quality. Check out the photos for condition. It measures approximately 6 11/16″ X 3 15/16″. Native Americans used the moon to tell time by counting from one new moon to the next, known as a lunar cycle. Native Americans assigned names to the moon for each month to keep track of the seasons. Each name is a symbol of what the moon meant to Native Americans by virtue of its use, guidance and influence in their daily lives. January is named the “Wolf Moon” because during the cold nights wolves would howl hungrily outside the Native American villages. Some sources mention that Native Americans used stars’ positions to indicate specific seasons or events of the year such as harvest time, planting time, buffalo hunt time and so on. Their interpretation and use of the star positions and constellation vary significantly from the astrology of the modern world. The Cree were first contacted by Europeans in 1682, at the mouth of the Nelson and Hayes rivers in what is now northern Manitoba, by a Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) party traveling about 100 miles (160 km) inland. In the south, contact was later. In 1732 in what is now northwestern Ontario, Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, met with an assembled group of 200 Cree warriors near present-day Fort Frances, as well as with the Monsoni, (a branch of the Ojibwe). Both groups had donned war paint in preparation to an attack on the Dakota and another group of Ojibwe. After acquiring firearms from the HBC, the Cree moved as traders into the plains, acting as middlemen with the HBC. Live in close symbiosis with nature. They understand the importance of respecting life and try their best to co-exist with all life forms on Earth. The moon and stars have a special significance to Native Americans.
