A great piece with potential offered as parts or for restoration , item does not work however has great parts still available , missing the comb and worms of the governor , The cylinder pins look great still, so would not need re pinning, please see all measurements and lengths of comb rest and cylinder in pictures in metric and imperial , just hover over pic and zoom in for the details. A restoration and some TLC to insure it works properly, perhaps or else for parts.. The wooden Mahogany box has wear mainly outside NO insect damage. The frame is there but no glass.. This captivating and exceptionally engineered Swiss interchangeable cylinder music box by Geo Baker Company, Geneva Switzerland is accompanied by its original table. The mechanism is set in a beautiful case of burled and Ebony walnut with satinwood, mother-of-pearl inlays adorning the lid. The entire box rests upon its original matching table supported by handsome turned legs. This music box serves not only as melodious entertainment but also as a fine example beautiful furniture from it’s time. Cylinders are stored within the table drawer and are capable of playing a variety of tunes with crisp, beautiful sound. Music boxes were at the height of fashion in the late 19th century serving as a status symbol for European gentry. Switzerland was the birthplace of cylindrical music boxes and home to the most renowned manufacturers. Large boxes with many cylinders such as this one had the best orchestral sounds, making them the most desirable of their time. Very old maybe turn of the century or before cylinder type music box for parts or restoration needs. This does not play. This one has a beautiful lid and real wood inlays. The pinned portion of the cylinder measures approximately 13 1/16 long. The comb has had repairs over the years. There is a lot of parts missing inside on the motor and comb screws, etc. Check out the photos for condition. The lid measures approximately 22 7/16″ X 8 3/4″ to the very outside of the black edge portion. ANTIQUE: EARLY 5 CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH UNMARKED – Brass Top – Piece was found attached as seen in photo and WAS TREADLE POWERED at the time of discovery. You are getting an antique unmarked early 5 cylinder phonograph (not complete as I understand) – that was treadle powered from the late 1800’s. Termites destroyed the table top that the phonograph was sitting on (see photos – showing the wood table top that was there before it had to be removed) – actual photos. It was part of a huge antique find recently that was caught up in legalities between two deceased antique collectors. Please look over all the photos as they are part of the description. The pieces are untampered with and just the way we found them. NOTE: This paragraph may have nothing to do with this item: This is one of the early dictating machines/phonographs of the 1870’s – 1890’s. Not sure what company or person was behind this one since it is unmarked… Edison, Bell, Tainter, Bell? The dictating machines of this time period used tin and wax over the cylinders. Some were also known as shavers, Dictaphones, or Graphophones. Tainter was the first, I believe, to put the phonograph on a sewing machine base and use the treadle to power the phonograph cylinder. This listing is for the top unit only – not the treadle base / sewing machine base that you see in the photos. You will get the item just as you see it in the photo. >the phonograph 18-1/2″W x 8-1/2″D x 9-1/2H (brass metal). The base with treadle is NOT included. Table top is NOT included.
