This is a 16 page, oversized folder (12 X 9) – Copyrighted 1925. Inside is a booklet & oversized loose-leaf/glossy style rug pattern pages tucked in the back. This was a brochure you could get at Harry Carey’s Trading Post. He was a big Hollywood movie star that had this ranch/trading post in Saugus, California. There you would find Navajo rug weavers and you could pick the pattern you would like from this color/glossy brochure showing all your options and have them hand woven, per your selection. There are 7 sheets in the back with 9 various Navajo patterned rugs to choose from. Interestingly, you will probably take note that the trading post seems to have adopted a signature logo, that would later be used by the Germans during the war and the Holocaust. This seems to be more associated with Harry Carey as it’s also the logo on the brochure (and incorporated into one of the rugs). Little did they know how it would be used later in the 1930’s. There is also a studio portrait of Harry Carey in the booklet. The Navajo women were featured predominately in the photos & articles. It includes picture pages and the original mailing folder from the Trading Post as well. I’ve also included a last photo of the invite for my grandfather to work at the Ranch tending to the horses, as well as a photo of Harry Carey and his wife posing inside the Trading post store and a post card of the ranch as well.
