An early Boston weight driven banjo clock, ca. 1832, signed faintly on the dial, Warranted (upper dial) John J. Low & Co / Boston (lower dial). Mahogany case with gilt frames, with interesting egg & dart `rope type’ inlay…. Original glasses (upper has crack). Probable original lead weight, pendulum (bob 2 7/8), sidearms, hand cut hands. Eagle top finial has age, may be original, threaded piece broke in chimney. Upper latch does not close, as threaded last 1/4 of belaying pin broke off. Well made movement with alternate train and deep cut teeth… Single screw rear mounted. Mvmt measures 2 5/8 x 3 15/16. Lowe box measures 9 7/8 x 7 9/16. Clock measures about 29 to top of chimney, w/o finial. A wonderful example in fine, as found condition.
